*olfaktorischer reiz unterschiedlichen ausmaßes, je nach baumart, z.b.: buche, esche, birke, zypresse, linde, platane, lärche etc.

Something shoots/ for instance:
close to the wood we smell*
and therefore learn:
"The darkening deepens to be ablaze

*olfactory stimulus of different degree, depending on the kind of tree, eg.: beech, ash-tree, birch, cypress, lime, plane tree, larch and so forth
