It’s been a joy bringing this project together over the last few months with Cat Bruce and an incredible team of collaborators; Margaret Bennett, Keir Long, Jos Collins, Ewen Henderson, Andrea Gobbi Music Production. Thank you to Active Events and MyPlayer for bringing it all together.

We’ll be presenting an ‘evening with’ event throughout February hosted by some of our favourite venues across the UK. Your ticket allows access to a 60 minute presentation featuring interviews with wonderful broadcaster and musician Anna Massie, behind-the-scenes clips, unseen live footage and the film itself with your choice of English or Gaelic narration. Helping to support these cultural hubs and organisations is very important to us and was a major motivation in pioneering this virtual tour.

We’ll also be taking pre-orders for a limited edition soundtrack CD and some beautiful high quality art prints.

Since the summer of 2020 we’ve been working away on this exciting project with BAFTA Scotland award-winning animator Cat Bruce. We’re delighted to introduce #Dùsgadh – a new take on a Scottish folktale.

The music and film were created, written, produced and recorded from home. It’s been a big learning curve for us all and also provided the perfect opportunity to collaborate and stay creative during a time when it’s been difficult to get together.

Tickets for the virtual tour will be available from Monday the 18th of January ahead of release in February. You’ll have the opportunity to support your local venues and festivals whilst enjoying the premiere of this film as part of an ‘evening with’ event. We’ll post the link up here and and all our social channels.

Stay tuned for the launch next week!

Breabach Summer 2020

To celebrate the loosening of lockdown, we thought it would be nice to share some of our recent news and plans for the mysterious road ahead. Like everyone, we’re constantly adjusting, trying to stay creative, active and be positive as much as possible. We don’t have many live gigs on the horizon but we do have plenty of other excitement to share with you.

My Light shines on

We are thrilled to be part of Edinburgh International Festival‘s specially curated series My Light Shines On: A Celebration of the Festival City. The program of music, theatre and dance aims to capture the essence and energy of the festival. We recorded a few (socially distanced) sets in the beautiful Leith Theatre in July, it felt so great to play together again!

James Duncan Mackenzie’s Departure

Thinking back through 15 years of Breabach memories has been truly amazing. We have been so fortunate to travel the globe playing music and sharing in fantastic adventures. Delivering our music to anyone who would listen – what a blessing! It is with this sentiment of joy and gratitude that we now bid adieu to our dear friend and stellar bandmate James Duncan Mackenzie who is taking on a new direction in his musical career and will no longer be touring about with us Breabachies. We wanted to share a few pics on our facebook page to celebrate some of our wonderful journeys with James since 2008 and, of course, to mark the next chapter in the story of the band. Best wishes Seumus with all of your dreams and ambitions.x

Welcome Conal McDonagh

We are delighted to introduce Conal McDonagh as the newest member of Breabach. Conal hails from Poolewe in the Scottish Highlands and has performed with various world class acts over the years including Cara Dillon, Duncan Chisholm, The Paul McKenna Band and is co-founder of the groundbreaking eclectic folk group Inyal. Since early Spring, we have been settling in as the new line-up, discussing creative direction, enjoying socially distanced drams and now, with restrictions lifting, it’s been great to meet up and work on new music for 2020 – All very exciting. More info on our forthcoming projects and releases soon but most importantly, we warmly welcome Conal into the Breabach family!

Glenturret Online Tasting

We had a really fun night with Jamie Morrison from the Glenturret Distillery for an online ‘virtual’ tasting of the Breabach 15 yr old Whisky. It was a delight to finally get to try the dram and to get the craic with Jamie and all the viewers. The tasting is available to watch again at the above link and you can still order one of the last remaining bottles from: www.theglenturret.com/breabach

James’ Album Crowdfunder

James Lindsay is putting together a new album and is looking for your help to make it happen! In collaboration with Creative Scotland’s Crowdfunder match funding initiative he’s raising the funds to record a brand new collection of experimental folk music. Have a look at the page and please share around!

New arrivals for Ewan and Megan

It’s been a busy lockdown for Megan and Ewan, not only for numerous appearances on Duncan Chisholm’s #CovidCeilidh or the above performance video (made for our friend Dietmar Haslinger’s Club Weltenklang series) but they also welcomed into the world new baby, Joey Grace. Welcome to the world little one!

COVID-19 Update

Sending our best wishes to everyone in this difficult time. We feel really fortunate that we managed to have an amazing run of shows and spend time with you all in the first quarter of the year. As it stands our scheduled summer run of gigs has been postponed and we want to send out solidarity to all the festivals and venues that we were due to perform at. It’s incredibly challenging for all the organisers, staff and volunteers that work tirelessly all year round to make these events happen and we can only look forward to their reschedule.

We also want to say a massive thank you to those of you that have ordered our CDs from Bandcamp and are being patient with us while we navigate things, it really does make a difference. We are still accepting and sending orders but there may be slight delays.

For now we are continuing to stay happy and productive at home, working on new music, taking things a bit slower and enjoying the beautiful spring time here in Glasgow.

Stay Safe x
