Senior Web Ops engineer / SysAdmin

Description
Responsibilities
  • Ensure maximum uptime and smooth operation of Digg.com and related services
  • Collaborate daily with our development and operations teams as we work on projects to improve site features, scalability, and stability
  • Share your insight and ideas on how we can improve
  • Develop tools and processes that allow us to do more with less
  • Automate away repetitive/low-value/uninteresting work
  • Participate in Digg's learning culture as both student and teacher
  • Demonstrate sound triage and troubleshoot
Responsibilities
Qualifications (required, must have)
  •  
    • Expert Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills (Debian preferred)
    • Extensive Python, Ruby, or Perl development experience (Python is our preferred language)
    • Experience with configuration management tools and CMDBs (Puppet, Chef, CFEngine or similar)
    • Real-world experience working with several (not all) of the core technologies on this list:
      • Web servers and services - Apache, PHP, WSGI, Tornado
      • Relational databases - MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle
      • NoSQL databases - Cassandra, Redis, HBase, CouchDB, MongoDB
      • Caching services - Memcached, APC, Content Distribution Networks (CDNs)
      • Load balancing / HA systems - Netscaler, F5, Keepalived, HAProxy
      • Network services - DNS, LDAP, DHCP, Postfix
      • Hadoop - MapReduce, Hive, HDFS
      • Monitoring systems - Nagios, Ganglia, Cacti, OpenTSDB, etc.
    • Fluent in shell - built-in commands, control loops, sed, awk, grep, and regular expressions
    • Clear communication skills (written and verbal)
Bonus Points (not required, nice to have):
  • Experience working for a web site with several million unique monthly visitors
  • Experience working on an Ops team that embraces agile system administration / DevOps practices
  • Experience deploying and maintaining systems in the cloud (Amazon AWS, Rackspace)
  • Experience with network hardware, vendors, and protocols (Cisco routers/switches, BGP, OSPF, ISP/TelCo Issues)
  • Understanding of agile software engineering practices
  • Experience installing and maintaining continuous integration and code review tools like Gerrit or Hudson/Jenkins
  • Solid understanding of network and application security principles

Description
We are looking for an exceptional Account Executive based in San Francisco to play a key role in growing the company’s advertising revenue.Reporting to Digg’s Head of Sales, the successful candidate has a proven track record in consistently delivering strong year over year revenue growth in direct online sales as well as driving innovative ad products that are scalable and sustainable from a brand, revenue, and user experience perspective.
Responsibilities
Digg has pioneered several proprietary new ad products that are helping marketers see new paths for engaging with their target audience/consumer.  We are looking for smart, aggressive sales people who want to break out of selling banners and help marketers leverage these powerful new tools.  The ideal candidate should come with established relationships and be able to hit the ground running to close new deals, grow existing client relationships for repeat sales, and hit quarterly target revenue quotas.  This position requires strong experience with front-line interactive sales as well as management, operational and organizational skills. This person must be a team player and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that strives for excellence.  
Qualifications
  • Lead direct sales of online advertising to North-West Coast clientele to meet Digg’s revenue goals.
  • Develop sales plans, metrics, goals, and revenue forecasts and budgets.
  • Become an expert on the Digg audience, brand, site experience and product roadmap to create a compelling and credible selling proposition to agencies and clients.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including ad operations, finance, product management, and business development to assure execution and optimization of commitments and unlock new opportunities.
  • Manage the sales process including prospecting, the RFP process, inventory planning, campaign adjustments, and post-mortems.
  • Develop capabilities to drive analysis on advertising results for internal, agency and client use.
  • Create original ideas and solutions that balance the needs of the client while maintaining a world-class user experience.
  • Cultivate senior-level relationships with brand advertisers and ad agency executives
