With a growing number of Mashable readers using the Android OS, we’re excited to announce the Mashable Android App – live in the marketplace [Android Marketplace link].
The application makes it easy to navigate, read, save and share Mashable stories. It also enables you to browse content by specific channels, and even includes a category for Android news and tips. Features include:
1. Browse by channel: Social media, mobile, web video, entertainment, business, tech, Android
2. Share stories via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter and Digg
3. Read later: Save stories to read offline using your Instapaper account
4. Comment: Browse through comments, and add your own
5. Price: FREE!
We hope you’ll download the app in the marketplace and give us your feedback. We’ll continue to make improvements and add new features to the app based on your feedback.
Download Using the QR Code Below
- Step 1. Open Your Barcode Scanner app
- Step 2. Center and scan the QR code below

What do you think of it, Grant? We’ve been working through bugs and will continue to iterate. Would love to hear what you think is missing, could be improved?

Judging by the top picture, Mashable’s photoshopper doesn’t know much about Android.
Does anyone at Mashapple? :-)
Jonah, Thanks for the feedback, I am the photoshopper of the above graphic and have owned an Android device ever since the first Android G1 came out. Sorry you didn’t like the photoshop work.
eah!!!!!! yeah man, sometimes they just talk with out knowing the real rush of been a graphic designer for an internet company. I´m the one for talenthouse.com and even if I know Mashable requires tons of work, I know how hard it is to get it done.
Nice to see a comment of a colleague standing out. good stuff! ;)
QR code… should just point to the app in the market. I suppose they want to be able to keep track of how many people used the code I guess?
Or the appbrain link: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.intridea.mashable
Much easier to install with the one-click fast web installer.
Why do Mashable need native apps when they just need a web app that works on all devices? What funcionality do you use in the apps that you can’t have in a web app? Just wondering…
People prefer different methods of receiving their content. Our website is already mobile optimized, but the app allows us to add additional features such as deeper category navigation and more social sharing options.
We appreciate the input though and will continue to make our apps unique an useful experiences.
“but the app allows us to add additional features such as deeper category navigation and more social sharing options.”
Then your mobile site is clearly not optimized enough.
Pretty sure a web page can’t integrate with installed application, opening them so you can share content via an application of your choice, such as a twitter app, mashable app can.
@Stephen That would be nice if you could make application links like twitter:// or something similar just like market://
Agree, I don’t want to have to install a bunch of apps on a specific device (or specific devices, if I have more than one). I just want to go to the web and use the content.
Android needs a barcode to download apps?
Eh, no. That’s called “ease of use”.
Lolz, we have the same name.
finally!
Unfortunately, it crashes on load with an error message on HTC Desire, Android 2.1 : crash of com.intridea.mashable process. Tests with wifi and 3G+ connections.
Working for me on WiFi at least, although I’m getting some weird issue with the pictures flickering when scrolling down the list of articles.
About time! Looks and works great on the Droid.
Glad you like it, would love to hear how it can be improved!
it didn’t work on my nexus one… sigh~
Sorry to hear this, will look into this issue.
Epic fail
1. Screen does not auto roate
2. when i click on view comments , it opens the browser…
i need this app like FB app where i dont need to open a browser to view/post comments.
i am uninstalling it.
Thanks for the feedback. These are features that will be included in an upcoming update :)
The M-app keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy i9000 with Android 2.1. Cannot even load it.
Crashes here on motorola milestone, android 2.1 update 1. Sad :/
Thanks for the heads up. Looking into this.
Boo, android
I didn’t like the app… it’s really ugly and i prefer the design that has the mobile web. But i until have the app in my phone, i will wait a little bit for updates.
Pictures flicker when scrolling. Option to share using own Twitter client such as Seesmic would be better (and faster) than having to use Twitters web based client.
Refreshing comments removes all but one comment. Press back then go back to comments and they reappear.
Top screen tab menu says Android but selecting Menu > More > gives same menu except last option says Apple instead of Android but still brings up Android posts.
Crashes during startup on HTC Desire with Froyo 2.2
Vadim, if I press the tweet button it automatically opens the web browser and goes to the twitter site. It doesn’t give any option to select a client. I use Seesmic.
Super. Now I can get unfettered access to Mashable's obvious Jobs and Apple whoreship on my uber superior rooted original DROID running Froyo.
“Step 3. Open the browser link (the link will direct your the Android Marketplace”
Not only are you writing shit, your grammar has turned to shit too.
Is the Android any more reliable than the Droid? The droid has been awful, like a lemon car

matt
im so sick of apps that are not made for android 1.5 so fckn stupid , we buy phones from the phone company that supply us with this crappy ass 1.5 and take forever to update it , its not right i wish i had a iphone so i wouldnt have to deal with this
Works fine on my Galaxy spica, thanx.. :)
Works fine on my Galaxy Spica, thanx ..:-)
finally i can read mashable thru my htc desire!! not only my ipadgreat work!
I love the app & works fine on the Verizon Droid. I do have 2 issues. The update does not give me Facebook share option which I’d love to have & when commenting it would be nice if the screen could rotate for better typing. You have no idea how many times the delete button was used just for this comment.
As you may have noticed the QR Code in this article doesn’t take one directly to the Android Market, but rather to the http://www.androidzoom.com site. We had this problem as well when creating a QR Code for our App at http://alti.asu.edu.
What we discovered was that the QR Codes that AndroidZoom provides only work for about an hour or less, then they default to their own pages. A QR Code that sticks needs to be a direct link to the Market in the form of market://… and contain the specific App “pname”.
Here is the correct link for the Official Mashable App.
market://search?q=pname:com.intridea.mashable
Input this link into a QR Code generator such as http://zxing.appspot.com/generator/ to generate the proper QR Code. QR Codes can also be generated on the Android device using the “App Referrer” App.
Cool.
Mashable you guys rock, but I’m going to pass….
Between Facebook, email subscriptions, and RSS Feeds I’m already on the edge of Mashable overload.
I see all of your stories on Facebook and RSS feeds. Don’t really see a point in this app.
The QR code goes to the webpage and it should go to the download link.
Thank you!! This made my day…downloading NOW! Will give feedback shortly but can say that the fact you’re showing some Android love is a step in the right direction, Yippee!
Force closing on Nexus One :( Also, my comments on mobile mashable have disappeared & are not showing on my tweet stream as well…I’ve had this problem before & am not sure if it has to do with Disqus or mashable. Any advice? Side note: Android app looks great & I’ve faith you will be fixing bugs :)
Of course THAT comment showed on my tweet stream, Murphys law
Doesn't work in my HTC Wildfire (320×240) Please Add support for that.
nice one
There was another mashable app that didn't hold up for me. I prefer this app instead. I'm one of the types to prefer an app than a mobile site. Seems I can get to the articles much faster, better integration into the OS and just a smoother experience. BUT…..
I just installed tweetdeck (beta) on my GalaxyS (AT&T) and have slowly migrated away from the mashable app…
(The only problem with the photoshopped pic, it's not clear that the picture is 2 screens and not one wide view)
It needs Move to SD Card support
I got it installed and running on my MyTouch 3G w the 3.5mm jack, still running Android 1.6 (waiting for the OTA update from Tmobile), even though the market description recommends phones running 2.0 or higher. It seems to function fine, except it doesn't auto rotate, and the toolbar across the top cuts off showing “All, Social Media, Mobile, Web Vi-” I see there are more categories when I press the menu button on my phone and select “More”. The articles themselves seem to be auto-adjusting to display fine on my screen, though.
Doesn't allow me to download from the Market on my HTC Hero. I'll just follow on Twitter I guess.
Where I can get the .apk? I will try to run it on a lower version of Android.
what's with the QR code only linking to a website, why not link directly to the app in the market place.
Nevermind.
About to use it lets see if i get hooked :)
Can't download it on Motorola Cliq. I scanned the barcode, and tried to download from the website, and the market can't find it. Nor can I search Mashable in the market
I can't find it in the market, please fix this problem about filter!
My phone is: samsung corby smartphone i5500 – Android 2.1
nice one
download and installed! It works fine
Thank you
I don’t get the negative vibe people have. If you don’t like the design or the idea of a mobile app for Mashable, that’s fine. The app does what it says it does. Sounds good to me.
what's the point of having a QR code point to a webpage rather than directly to the app, and anyways the link doesn't show any results when I tried it. (HTC Wildfire, not that that should make any difference.)
The App is Great. However you need to add “Install to SD” option to it!
Also it would be great to remove the loading screen in the beginning. Arcitles should be loaded in a background.
Sorry, but between the feed in Google Reader, following on Twitter, and adding you on Facebook… There is no shortage of Mashable exposure in my life. A dedicated app is a bit much. But still great to see some Android love (finally)!
