As Pete Campbell haters everywhere know, the gloves came off repeatedly throughout AMC‘s latest season of Mad Men. Now the network is following suit — a snarky viral ad campaign is just the latest jab in AMC’s feud with satellite broadcaster Dish Network.

AMC Networks — which encompasses AMC, Sundance and WE — is urging viewers to drop their Dish subscriptions with its Save the White House campaign. The ad refers not to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but to the home of fictional meth dealer Walter White — the main character in AMC’s hit series Breaking Bad.

The billboards are part of a larger initiative to make viewers aware of Dish’s plans to drop AMC networks from the cable service as of July 1.

AMC hopes fans who are anxiously awaiting season five of Breaking Bad — which premieres July 15 — might be motivated enough to switch.

In addition to the campaign’s website, AMC is rolling out ads on buses and billboards. Washington, D.C. saw 175 bus ads and 5 wrapped city buses. Two billboards and 50 bus ads also rolled through Denver, where Dish is based.

In previous public blows of the carriage negotiations, AMC ran commercials that interrupted the season finale of Mad Men (another of AMC’s prize series), warning Dish subscribers to switch services or lose access to the program by month’s end. Dish then retaliated early the next morning by moving AMC from channel 130 (among high-profile entertainment networks) to channel 9609 alongside infomercials and similar low-brow programming. Forcing Don Draper out of television’s Park Ave. and into Jersey City? Things were bound to get ugly.

  1. I’m a cable subscriber with a big new HDTV who was thinking of switching to Dish for its HD channels–until this brouhaha came up. Some of those AMC programs are exactly what I want to be able to see, and if I can’t see them on Dish I won’t be switching.

  2. If it’s not resolved by October and the return of The Walking Dead I’ll probably be jumping the Dish ship. Stay classy Dish.

  3. My wife and I already made the decision that we are going to switch. Losing AMC is just too much. Besides, we’ve been “bundled” for far too long with our phone service to see any real discount any more.

  4. These guys need to figure out that subscribers aren’t going to switch… they’re going to torrent the shows they can’t see. Enough of this greed BS. All the cable providers need to get with the times.

  5. I might switch from dish to direct tv. Not only for AMC but also they have better Football channels to watch EPL, La Liga and Champions League.

  6. Yep, I ditched Dish and went back to Comcast Xfinity (grudgingly). DirectTV was another option, but they couldn’t find a signal to their satellite from my house’s roof top, so that was a no-go.

  7. The fact that AMC is in a dispute with Dish and AT&T leads me to believe that AMC is being unreasonable in asking for a rate increase and these service providers are standing up for their customers by not raising rates. Love Walking Dead, but I can get it through Netflix without my subscription rates going up.

  8. I have been a Dish customer since 1996 but will drop them next week if this is not sorted out. A lot of my favorite programs are on AMC and there is no way I am missing the new season of Breaking Bad when it starts July 15.
