Should President Obama have asserted executive privilege in the Fast and Furious probe?

loading...

President Barack Obama asserted executive privilege, escalating a fight with congressional Republicans over documents about a gun-trafficking probe. The move threw into uncertainty a possible vote to sanction Attorney General Eric Holder with contempt of Congress. What do you think? Is executive privilege appropriate in this case?

The U.S. economy won’t avoid falling over the edge of a fast-approaching fiscal cliff, when tax breaks expire at the same time automatic spending cuts kick in at the end of the year, says Jared Bernstein, a former adviser to President Barack Obama.

Using executive privilege with the death of Border Partrol
agent Brian Terry and the deaths of 300 Mexican nationals
is an insult to the US Constituition.

See the true top 10 presidents in history. Maybe if newly elected presidents would follow in prior presidents footsteps this country things can improve in this country.

  • Bush's program, Wide Receiver, was nothing like BHO's F&F program. Here are the salient differences, that make any comparison apples and oranges:
    1. WR was a small scale program designed to capture king pin gun runners by linking them to illegal weapons
    2. The weapons were being tracked, so that law enforcement could actually use the information to make arrests.
    3. WR was executed with the knowledge and cooperation of the Mexican authorities.
    4. WR was shut down after it was shown not to be effective.
So, all you kool-aid drinking BHO/Holder apologists, tell us why the Dynamic Duo would reconstitute a failed program, but enlarge it many times, but without any tracking mechanism and without the knowledge of the Mexican government? What was it supposed to accomplish? Please save your snarky wisecrack remarks and just try to answer this simple question! What was it supposed to accomplish? Clearly it was not targeted to catch king-pin drug runners, so what was its purpose? We're waiting......

While you're thinking what the answer might possibly be for F&F, let's ask the family of slain border agent Brian Terry if this is an "ISSA Witchhunt"? Or the hundreds of innocent Mexicans proven to have been killed by the guns involved in F&F... How can a program that BHO and Holder both admit was ill-conceived and botched have such terrible results, and yet not one person has been even fired, never mind charged, for the numerous US gun laws that agents from BATF and Justice ordered local BATF and FLF gun dealers to break, resulting in all this carnage? Someone has to be responsible, and the American public, via Congress, have a right and a duty to demand answers from the elected officials that made the decisions to implement F&F. Note- the border patrol agents union, representing thousands of federal workers not prone to supporting right-wing, Republican causes, have called for AG Holder's resignation. At some point, even the most cynical ardent BHO supporters need to acknowledge that this is way beyond political partisianship, this cuts to the core of who we are as a nation, which I believe is why these federal workers are taking this unprecented position.

And finally, if BHO and Holder wanted the questioning to end, they could simply provide Congress the documents which show 1) whom authorized F&F and 2) whom knew about it. For BHO to pull the executive privledge card this late in the game can only mean that there was involvement and knowledge at the highest level, otherwise the privledge does not apply. Can't have it both ways. This makes them both contemptable liars, since they both declared, like that NAZI Schultz from Hogan's Heros, ".....I (we) know nothing....". Last time I checked, it was a criminal offense to lie to congress.....

To our Republican buffoons, including this (always get it wrong) biased editorial, The Wall Street Janitors, here is a dose of truth: http://features.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2012/06/27/fast-and-furious-truth/

something clearly absent among your kind.
