World Food Programme

The United Nations is using Drupal (and Mollom) for the World Food Programme. The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian organization. With almost 12,000 people working for the World Food Programme, their food assistance reaches an average of 100 million people in 80 countries every year.

Oxfam International

The flagship site of Oxfam International, http://oxfam.org, is using Drupal. Oxfam International is a confederation of organizations actively working in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.

ICANN

ICANN (Internet Committee for Assigned Names and Numbers), the non-profit organization that oversees the use of Internet domains is using Drupal at http://public.icann.org.

United Nations

The United Nations is using Drupal for their End Poverty Campaign. The site is part of a network of Drupal sites that stand up against poverty. This network of sites is part of the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 when they agreed to meet the millennium development goals.

Reuters

Reuters is very interested in experimentation with "new media". They have established http://labs.reuters.com to package & highlight some of their technical innovations. It runs on Drupal 6.

BBC Magazines

BBC Magazines is the magazine publishing division of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Turns out that they have a number of magazine websites built on Drupal: BBC Music Magazine, BBC Countryfile Magazine, BBC Focus Magazine, BBC Who Do You Think You Are Magazine, BBC History Magazine, BBC Home And Antiques

The Industry Standard

AKA thestandard.com, is using Drupal. The Industry Standard features news and analysis that covers emerging technologies and companies, venture funding, acquisitions, site launches, and other developments in the internet space. This system is built as a prediction market, intersected with a reputation-based social network. The site is part of the IDG network, which includes sites like Computerworld, Infoworld, JavaWorld.com, Macworld, PC World, and more.

Fast Company

Fast Company, a well-known business magazine about innovation, technology, leadership, management, design, social responsibility, careers and work/life balance, is now using Drupal.

Forbes

Forbes just launched a video-sharing site built with the GoingOn platform, which uses a modified Drupal at its core. Check out the YouTube of Corporate America at http://officepranks.forbes.com.

New York Observer

The New York Observer a prominent New York City newspaper, relaunched its web site using Drupal. Each Channel page covers a major topic: Politics, Media, The City, etc., while the Home page of course covers the most important articles from all Channels.

The White House

WhiteHouse.gov relaunched in Drupal. A very secure version demonstrates you can customize Drupal to be as secure as you might need.

Australian Prime Minister

The website of Kevin Michael Rudd, the Prime Minister of Australia is using Drupal: see http://www.pm.gov.au.

Recovery.gov

Drupal is no stranger to the political arena, and has been used for many campaign and government sites before. Recovery.gov, however, though, is a definite coup for Drupal -- there are not many Drupal sites that have their own post on Whitehouse.gov. Or on the Huffington Post. Or are featured on CNN all day long.

NHL

Canada's National Hockey League (NHL) is probably the highest level of professional ice hockey in world. With league revenue totaling 2.5 billion US dollars last year, the NHL is also big business. The NHL has begun using Drupal for several interactive sites that allow fans to participate in the annual all-star game voting, and weekly fan favorite awards. British Government

The British Government is using Drupal on an innovation initiative to encourage developers and designers share new ideas and showcase their work: http://innovate.direct.gov.uk.

USASpending.gov

Vivek Kundra, the CIO of the United States, unveiled the new IT spending dashboards at http://it.usaspending.gov earlier this week. Tim O'Reilly has all the details in his blog post titled Radical transparency: the new federal IT dashboard. In short, the dashboards are designed to help CIOs of individual government agencies get a handle on the effectiveness of government IT spending. The site was built with Drupal.

MIT

It would be interesting to get a list of all the Drupal sites at MIT -- I know they have quite a few. Recently, MIT's well-known Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) launched its new and improved website using Drupal at http://www.csail.mit.edu.

Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla launched spreadthunderbird.com this week. Spread Thunderbird is the volunteer-run Thunderbird advocacy site where community marketing activities are organized to raise awareness and to promote the adoption of Thunderbird, Mozilla's Open Source e-mail application. The Spread Thunderbird site is powered by Drupal and uses the Acquia Marina theme.

Harvard

Just when I wrote that more and more universities start to embrace Drupal, the smart people at Harvard's Science and Engineering department relaunched on Drupal.

Ubuntu

The popular Linux distribution Ubuntu, is now using Drupal at http://ubuntu.com/. More information is available at Matt Nazum's blog. I've mailed with Matt about this and he wrote: "Now that we have a good platform, the fun is just beginning".
