The Stan Lee who is the author of Dunn's Conundrum is Stanley R. Lee, NOT the Stan Lee (Lieber) of Marvel Comics fame who is listed erroneously as the author in the bio on the book's Amazon sales page. As for the book, it is a prophetic blue print for the current scandal of NSA spying. Lee lays out the building of a surveillance state from the FISA Court inception in 1974. The book was published in 1985 and the technology today is light years ahead of what Lee imagined, but the premise holds - all-inclusive data on everyone, everywhere. To anyone who read this book when it first came out, and to the small army of conspiracy theorists, the Snowden revelations about the monitoring of the public's private lives by government agencies is not a new or absurd idea. This is a well-told story with just the right combination of clarity and wit. The other relevant connection to the current NSA spying revelations (2013)is the crisis of integrity that overcomes the various employees of the fictional secret Library engaged in the work - much like Snowden's stated personal dilemma. Gives the reader an insight into what may have caused Snowden to make his decision to expose the NSA program. Highly recommended.

Jumped around a lot from place to place, the characters were well defined, but so many to keep track of. Really uneven at the beginning, but evened out as the story went on. Not a logical progression of events, which kept things interesting. Once I got into the mood, and understood the author's point of view, it got better and better. The diatribe on garbage and what can be learned from it was fantastic. Lots of interesting concepts that make you think.

I first read this when it came out in the mid 80s and enjoyed it. Pretty much forgot about it until I noticed it on Kindle recently and bought it. It is kind of amazing to see how well the author nailed the current level of government surveillance. That and scary. The logic of bluffing with nuclear weapons sounds a lot like Trump and Kim Jong-un.
Even closer to reality than reading 1984 in 1984.

Strange! A conundrum within a conundrum. So many twist and turns that will make your head spin. You won't divine the end of this tome!

The premise is good, but rather laborious. The book rambles on too much. It could have been tauter and more crisp. The latter part of the story had more pace and had an interesting conclusion

This was a little confusing at times and a little difficult to follow due to scene shift changes. Otherwise it was an ok story.

I felt the book could have moved a little faster. It would work as a TV/Movie because the detail is short lived (think 24), but to read it, I got mired down in the amount of stuff going on.

Boring and not amusing. Got 30% in and just couldn't continue. Not like me at all but I just had enough.

Great book

Difficult to find original storytelling married to interesting prose as well as descriptive and convincing sex. Never read Stan Lee before and really sad to find out he died in 97 according to the blurb.
This is a great read because it takes commonplace events and marries it to interesting and plausible explanations with writing that is credible. This is the first book I have really enjoyed so freely in a long time.
If you like Smiley, don't need contrived excitement and enjoy a convoluted plot, written with a believable dialogue give this a go. I did, and really enjoyed it.

Excellent plot, could conceivably happen. Very clever political/ spy thriller. Will the good guys win? What would your rubbish say about you?
