The UK today confirmed another 1,243 deaths caused by Covid-19 and an extra 45,533 positive tests as Home Secretary Priti Patel led a Downing Street press conference urging people in England to follow lockdown rules. Branding the still-surging numbers of infections, hospital admissions and fatalities 'horrifying', Ms Patel said that lockdown rule-breakers will be dealt with by the police. Her comments are a last-ditch appeal to people's common sense as Boris Johnson today held a virtual meeting with his senior team as they consider tightening lockdown even more. Leading figures on SAGE are pushing for a three metre social rule distancing rule, and there are threats to axe the loophole allowing people to exercise with a friend from another household. Other options thought to have been considered for England include restricting click and collect to essential retail, and closing more workplaces such as estate agents. Nicola Sturgeon said today that she is mulling harsher limits on click and collect shopping in Scotland, as well as tightening the rules on takeaways. She is expected to announce any changes tomorrow.
