As part of three interconnected and interdisciplinary research projects at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) and the Frobenius Institute for Research in Cultural Anthropology (Frankfurt am Main, Germany), we offer four PhD positions (“Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter*innen”) in the field of anthropology (or related disciplines) to study the socio-cultural and religious meanings of cereals in Odisha (India) in the context of changing government policies and new global and local valuations of cereals in connection to discourses of bio-diversity, sustainability and food security or sovereignty.

Wir trauern um Prof. em. Dr. Klaus E. Müller (1935–2021), der dem Frobenius-Institut, dem er von 1964 bis 1965 als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter angehörte, stets eng verbunden war. Von 1971 bis 1996 als Professor am damaligen Institut für Historische Ethnologie der Goethe-Universität beschäftigt, hat sich Müller besondere Verdienste für die Frankfurter Ethnologie erworben. Er war ein geistreicher Gelehrter, ein bis zuletzt produktiver Autor und ein inspirierender Lehrer.

Wir trauern um Prof. Dr. Gerhard Liesegang, der kürzlich in Maputo verstarb und in den 1970er Jahren als Historiker und Archäologe für das Institut tätig war.

Wir trauern um Meinhard Schuster (1930-2021).

Meinhard Schuster war dem Frobenius-Institut über Jahrzehnte eng  verbunden. Am 12. März 2021 erschien unter der Überschrift "Er war  gewissermaßen Kolumbus" ein Nachruf von Karl-Heinz Kohl im Feuilleton  der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung:
