Cover: Vertical UpIt all began back in high school, Tommy's mum was my German teacher and we jammed on a few occasions together. However, the school band never took off, because we only ever wrote one song, and we weren't exactly capable of playing anything but making rhythmic noise. Tommy and I went on with our lives and we lost touch in university. Years later I saw him playing with his folk band Avalon in an Irish Pub. The name AVALON derives from the Celtic mythology – an island represented as earthly paradise – and the music clearly reflects this origin. The six-piece-band played with ease and they seemingly had fun with what they call folk rock of a new kind.

Listening to the only tune on the new release, I couldn't hear anything "of a new kind" in the lyrics nor did the music really rock me. In my humble opinion, Vertical Up is just a shallow pop song. I am disappointed in what I heard and rather wish, I had not committed to writing a review. It was so much better to hear Avalon live in a Pub...
