Safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH)…
…including menstrual hygiene, is the basis for people to live healthy, dignified lives and to reach their full potential. Today, millions of women and girls around the world continue to be discriminated, stigmatised and limited because of an entirely natural and normal physical function: their periods. For hundreds of millions of people, enjoying their basic human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation remains but a dream. WASH United exists to change that.
A crossbreed between an advocacy NGO and a creative agency, we focus on those challenges towards WASH for all where our special combination of development sector expertise and creative talent can make the biggest difference: advocacy and education, with a specific focus on menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
Our key advocacy initiatives are Menstrual Hygiene Day and Making Rights Real. In the area of education, we focus on the development of compact and scalable low-cost solutions for MHM and WASH. We are lean, agile and develop solutions applying user-centred design. We don’t implement solutions ourselves, but through partnerships with strong international and local implementing organisations that integrate our solutions into their programmes. This enables us and our partners to leverage resources and achieve impact at scale.
