Der Arzt: “Eine Ehefrau. Das Gefühl von Sicherheit senkt den Streßpegel. Ist sehr gesund.”
Der Informatiker: “Beides. Wenn die Frau denkt, daß du bei deiner Freundin bist, und die Freundin denkt, du bist bei deiner Frau, kannst du in Ruhe programmieren.”

QR Code Geek Christmas Cake
Today I had a great christnerdparty with my friends from Chaostreff Essen (Chaospott). Besides such geeky things like self-made blinking LED christmas trees and 8 bit christmas music we built a special geeky christmas cake with QR code on top. And yay, after hours of prototyping it worked without any trouble with every QR Code reader we had around :)

- Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.
- Product is tested. 20 bugs are found.
- Programmer fixes 10 of the bugs and explains to the testing department that the other 10 aren’t really bugs.
- Testing department finds that five of the fixes didn’t work and discovers 15 new bugs.
- Repeat three times steps 3 and 4.
- Due to marketing pressure and an extremely premature product announcement based on overly-optimistic programming schedule, the product is released.
- Users find 137 new bugs.
- Original programmer, having cashed his royalty check, is nowhere to be found.
- Newly-assembled programming team fixes almost all of the 137 bugs, but introduce 456 new ones.
- Original programmer sends underpaid testing department a postcard from Fiji. Entire testing department quits.
- Company is bought in a hostile takeover by competitor using profits from their latest release, which had 783 bugs.
- New CEO is brought in by board of directors. He hires a programmer to redo program from scratch.
- Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free…#goto 2 ;-)

Nachdem ich gestern erläutert habe, welche Vorteile die Google App Engine in der Entwicklung von Webanwendungen in Java bietet, folgt nun zunächst ein kleines Step-by-Step-Tutorial zur Einrichtung der Entwicklungsumgebung in eclipse.
Die Entwicklungsumgebung für Java auf der Google App Engine basiert auf eclipse JEE (Web Tools Platform) sowie den zugehörigen Tools für die Google App Engine. Im Folgenden werden die Schritte erklärt um die IDE soweit einzurichten, so dass wir im nächsten Schritt mit der Erstellung einer Beispielanwendung starten können.
Wer sich mit eclipse und der Installation von Plugins auskennt, dem sollte die Angabe der URL http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.6 reichen.

Nein Mann, ich will kein PHP... Ich will lieber Java...
PHP schön und gut, aber J2EE darf's auch mal wieder sein. Aber woher nehmen, wenn nicht selbst aufsetzen? Im Gegensatz zu PHP ist J2EE selten bei den gängigen Standard-Hostern serverseitig installiert, so dass meist nur die Möglichkeit bleibt, selbst einen (lokalen) Java-Server wie Tomcat aufzusetzen. Eine weitere weitaus einfachere und elegantere Möglichkeit bietet jedoch die Google App Engine, wo Java-basierte Webanwendungen entwickelt und deployed (d.h. aufgespielt) werden können.
