More about Nicolas Mahler
Nicolas Mahler, b. 1969, comics artist, lives in Vienna. He sketches comics for Austrian, German and Swiss newspapers, magazines and anthologies. He has published over twenty books in recent years, especially in France, Canada and the US. His Thomas Bernhard adaptation of Old Masters was Suhrkamp Verlag’s first book augmenting its programme with the graphic novel.
Nicolas Mahler’s figures have no eyes, no ears and no mouths – but they undoubtedly have character! Mahler always succeeds in creating punch lines for his jokes with minimalist sketches and offbeat humour. He is a virtuoso of his art of oscillating between the banal, absurd and Kafkaesque.
