More about Tomas Venclova
Tomas Venclova is a Lithuanian scholar, poet, author and translator of literature. He was educated at Vilnius University. As an active participant in the dissident movement he was deprived of Soviet citizenship in 1977 and had to emigrate. Initially after his emigration, between 1977 and 1980, he lectured at University of California, Berkeley. Since 1980 he has been a member of the department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at Yale University. He is author of collections of poems, poetry-translations, essays, articles. His poetry collections have appeared in many languages including English, German, Italian, Swedish, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, and Chinese.
