Incentives - New Literature from Austria

readme.cc provides multilingual access to the latest Austrian literature. In collaboration with the Literaturhaus in Vienna the reading forum offers the latest insights about literature published in Austria.

Literary journalists and researchers introduce current new publications; reading samples allow for a closer look at the texts; short portraits of the authors complement the picture.

The range of information is currently available in five languages: German, English, French, Czech and Hungarian.

The Project "Incentives" targets at the internationalization of Austrian literature, respectively the translation of current texts.

[ book tip by Simone Pervenche ] Ce récit est construit autour d'un évènement central: la séparation d'un couple, ou plutôt la décision et l'acte d'une femme qui se sépare de son mari. "Il m'est venu une idée étrange; au fond, pas vraiment une idée, mais une sorte d'illumination", dit-elle.
Tout le monde autour de cette femme s'inquiète, s'empresse de la mettre en garde, la conseille. Elle reste chez elle, avec son fils de huit ans à traduire des livres.
Cette femme ne se laisse jamais aller à d'éventuelles explications. Elle ne laisse jamais transparaitre ce qu'elle ressent. De simples détails nous renvoient à une crise intérieure et fond de cette femme un personnage tragique.
La femme libre. Peter Handke soulève la question en mettant en scène la détermination d'une femme à vouloir rester seule. Rester libre. Le terme "liberté" ne sera jamais employé et pourtant omniprésent.
