[ a könyvtippet írta Literatur Schweiz ] Marvelling at the beauty of the mountain scenery, the tourists hike past the Alpine chalet in their red socks, stopping to take photos of the Alpine herdsman standing outside. Cleaning their hiking boots in the fountain, they do not think that the fountain is here for more than just decoration. During the summer four Alpinists share this mountain lodge and the work on the Alp Stavonas at the foot of Piz Sez Ner. It is obvious who is in charge among the men. This is repeatedly confirmed by visitors from the lower valley: they even enjoy a drink with the head farmer, yet shake the hand of his assistant, slap the cowherd on the shoulders and nod to the swineherd. This seems to be the right order of things.
In his first book, Arno Camenisch describes the Alpine summer in a series of short prose texts, which create a coherent work of witty and brilliantly concise prose, describing the exhausting routine of the Alpine herdsmen.
Camenisch’s talent for dry, aloof observation and, reading between the lines, his refined sense of irony, lends his writing a subtlety and floating quality. In this book, there is a flash of modernity that also puts in perspective the day’s toil on Alpine pastures. Bilingual in both languages, Camenisch's book has added charm – even for readers with no knowledge of the Romansh language.
