Lavinia Greenlaw è nata a Londra, città nella quale ha vissuto per buona parte della sua vita. Ha pubblicato tre raccolte di poesie, la più recente è “Minsk” (2003), in lizza per i premi ‘T.S. Eliot’, ‘Forward’ e ‘Whitbread Poetry Prize’. I suoi due romanzi: “Mary George of Allnorthover” (si è aggiudicato il premio francese ‘Prix du Premier Roman Etranger’) e “An Irresponsible Age”. Ha collaborato con l’artista Garry Fabian Miller al libro “Thoughts of a Night Sea” e ha curato “Signs and Humours: the poetry of medicine” per la fondazione Calouste Gulbenkian. Il suo libro più recente è un libro di memorie, “The Importance of Music to Girls”.
I suoi lavori per ‘BBC radio’ includono programmi sull’Artico e il Baltico, sui solstizi e gli equinozi, Emily Dickinson, Elizabeth Bishop e la pittura paesaggistica olandese…
Ha scritto e adattato per la radio diversi drammi, tra cui “Night and Day” di Virginia Woolf. Ha scritto tre libretti per l’opera e i testi delle canzoni. Scrive per il webblog www.poetryfoundation.org.
Ha insegnato per cinque anni Scrittura creativa al Goldsmiths College, ora ha una cattedra di Scrittura creativa all’University of East Anglia.
