Incentives - New Literature from Austria

readme.cc provides multilingual access to the latest Austrian literature. In collaboration with the Literaturhaus in Vienna the reading forum offers the latest insights about literature published in Austria.

Literary journalists and researchers introduce current new publications; reading samples allow for a closer look at the texts; short portraits of the authors complement the picture.

The range of information is currently available in five languages: German, English, French, Czech and Hungarian.

The Project "Incentives" targets at the internationalization of Austrian literature, respectively the translation of current texts.

[ Knjižni namig pošilja Beat Mazenauer ] Flüsse und Ströme nehmen alle Wasser in sich auf, wie auch alle Worte in der Sprache aufgehen und sich vermischen. Ferdinand Schmatz' neue Gedichte erlauben diese Analogie, weil in ihnen das Strömen des Wassers von den Quellen herab in polyphone Poesie übersetzt ist – im Zentrum die Donau.

Motive werden in Klang- und Bedeutungsassonanzen wiederholt, ein ständiges Wogen und Gurgeln der Worte stellt sich ein. Die Macht des Donaustroms ist hier - in "donaupalast, gestiftet" - zu Monumenten aus Stein geronnen, "zum prunk des stiftenden donnerns". Marmor und "mauerpurpur" bestimmt die herrschaftlichen Architekturen der Kirchen und Burgen. Es dröhnen die Glocken, und die Sprache tut es ihnen nach: "hör, / da glockt was herab"! Am Ende bleibt der Mund offen stehen - vor Erstaunen, in Erregung.
