Can't support naked ambition It is with concern that I read that there are moves to have Little Congwong beach declared a "clothing optional" beach. Since elected to Randwick Council last year I have received many complaints regarding sexual acts taking place in the bushland adjacent to Little Congwong beach. I have nothing against naturists who conduct themselves in a decent manner, in a designated nudist area. However, as a local councillor I must voice the legitimate concerns of locals who fear such a declaration will inevitably lead to an increase in sleazy characters and their inappropriate behaviour that inevitably follows those committed, genuine naturists. Our local authorities, because of the beach location, can't be expected to provide the level of supervision that is needed to deter the voyeurs. La Perouse is both a village, with many local families, and a major tourist attraction. I cannot support any formalisation of the nude bathing at Little Congwong, and call on those who continue to flout the law which prohibits this in our city to find a beach where they can legally, and safely, pursue their naturist lifestyle. Cr Robert Belleli Randwick Council Support for right to bare all I refer to your article "Make beach clothing optional" (Courier, November 15). I support "naturist" Gerald Ganglbauer and the Free Beach Action Group's attempts to make clothing optional at Little Congwong beach. Having moved into the Randwick area in February 2005 with my girlfriend, we have been there twice since September. Comparing it with Lady Bay beach at South Head, it is larger, safer, and like Lady Bay, located next to a normal beach where children play. I found the ambience of Little Congwong far less threatening because of its openness and the greater number of beachgoers. The concern of reports of "people openly masturbating and performing sexual acts" may be founded, but the act remains illegal and indecent whether or not the beach is declared "clothing optional". Craig Pendergast Randwick The name of the game I couldn't help noticing that the naturist group Free Beach Action Group has a catchy acronym: Free BAG. Love it! Craig Roberts Pagewood
