From: Free Beach Action Date: Wednesday, 23 November 2005 7:50 AM Subject: Sydney Morning Herald Opinion Bottoms up II We [Spike] could leave Randwick [Council] alone there, but we're just not that nice. A beach at La Perouse, Little Congwong, has attracted for 40 years bathers who like to feel the breeze all over. It's not one of the state's five designated nude beaches - Lady Bay (or Lady Jane), Cobblers, Obelisk, Werrong and Samurai - and the unclad risk a $110 fine. Which is exactly how things will stay if Alan White, a Labor councillor, has his way. He's determined to thwart a push to legalise the nudity, and is putting another motion at tonight's busy meeting. "You attract unsavoury types when you make it official," he said, telling us of rumoured acts of self-love among the bushes and gay men meeting one another there for a bit of how's-your-father. The mayor's on record for sympathising with the nudists - sunshine's good for bones, Cr Seng told us - but he won't support it becoming, like, proper nude, because the locals don't like it. spike@smh.com.au Spikeline: 9282 2080 Fax: 9282 3253 Tuesday 22 November 2005
