From: Free Beach Action Date: Monday, 9 January 2006 11:10 AM Subject: Free Beach Letters VI Mr Ganglbauer On a recent visit to Little Congwong beach at La Perouse I read your plea for more nude beaches pinned to the board advising that L.C-W is not an official nudist beach, even though it is better placed than others for such a designation. This warning stems from complaints about lewd behaviour committed by a number of undesirables, one in particular. This individual, whom I shall name "The Legionnaire" because of his cap with neck covering flap, parades up and down, positions himself close to any young naked female and proceeds to play with himself in a quite disgusting fashion. He is not alone. I have seen him and several others playing with their dicks, no doubt out of sexual frustration, in full view. Another regular, "The Indian" is to be found at the Western End of Lady Jane behind the rocks like a spider in a hole, from which vantage point he can view the entire beach. He has a greying goatee and invariably wears shades. He walks up and down quite obsessively flicking his dick (he says it is a nervous tic). He has been seen standing at the foot of the steps with an erection. I wonder what this does for the tourists who frequent the path leading to the lighthouse. I have also seen him notifying others (there seems to be a group) as to whether there is anything of interest on the beach or where to find someone who may have secluded herself on the rocks beyond the beach. There is also a youngish bloke whom I call "The Italian" who when he spots a nubile female will place his towel a bit further down closer to the water so that he can look up to sneak a look while apparently sunbathing. He is also a member of the wankers club. You can see nudies on the headlands at either end of Lady Jane when the notice at the top of the steps states specifically that nudity is to be restricted to the beach. Until deviant behaviour is stopped, there can be no good case for further beaches. It's a vicious circle in that the fewer the number of beaches, the more eccentric the nudists will appear to be general public and this plays into he hands of the tour operators with their boats on the harbour passing close enough to give their passengers a quick thrill. It also reinforces a general obsession with the human body, which is food and drink for the pornography industry. The sad fact is that it wasn't always so. In the early 70's, nudity at Lady Jane was officially banned but tolerated though I remember an incident where a fellow was caught mid beach with a police launch approaching and had to shout to his wife to throw him his costume in case he would be apprehended. After 1976 when the NSW Labour Government took over and the current nude beaches were officially recognised, there was quite a healthy period of about 10 years when the ratio of men to women was roughly 50-50 and there were few deviants. Things started to change with Gay Liberation which meant that more and more men came along using the beaches as meeting places so that the women started to feel uncomfortable. Obelisk is now practically a Gay meeting place. You can see them openly cavorting on the sand and in the water. There is a problem wit "bushies", people hiding in the bush and doing goodness knows what, at Cobblers, resulting in frequent police visits. Yet Cobblers remains the healthiest of the beaches. Attitudes here in Australia fall way behind those of Europe although ahead of the USA. Unfortunately US' prudery is exemplified by its movies and aped by young people here. I found that Germany and Scandinavia have the most natural attitudes. I visited the isle of Sylt a couple of times in my youth. I suppose people in N. Europe see the need for some vitamin D. Australia also has the legacy of the Victorian age and a wowserist section of society to be found amongst the Christian churches and now an additional problem with Muslim youth. As for the latter, I have witnessed these hoons at L.C-W openly trying to disrupt peoples' fun by playing soccer, so it comes as no surprise that things have spilled over at N. Cronulla. The healthy period at Lady Jane in the 70's coincided with an unofficial beach patrol by some dedicated nudists. There obviously needs to be some monitoring, perhaps a camera of by flying visits by "plain-clothes" policewomen in order to dig out these deviants. There needs to be a notice about undesirable behaviour as at L.C-W I have noticed that the Legionnaire and his mates have disappeared for now from L.C-W and that this beach has a healthier atmosphere although there is now a preponderance of textiles. Until the beaches are cleared of deviants, this sad state of affairs will continue. I am sending this anonymously as I share this computer with my wife who is a typical Aussie. She turns a blind eye to my beach interest for the sake of our marriage and I do not have the guts to "come out". I know I am right because there is great freedom in swimming without the encumbrance of a costume. (I think a few people, myself included, have complained to Crime Stoppers about "The Legionnaire".) 30/12/05
