• TLDR
    "Complicity" took place in the congenial setting of the event space SUPERMARKT (Brunnenstr. 64). On November 7th and 8th there were three parallel Workshops around the conflicting pairs of pirates and capitalists, professionals and amateurs, programmers and (citizen) journalists. On November 9th Public Talks bundled the key issues of the conference. The goal here was to inform a broader audience about emerging forms of collaboration.

  • Public Talks (PT)
    The third day of the conference (November 9th) was dedicated to the Public Talks. Here lectures and panels addressed a broader audience by presenting central concepts as well as major phenomena of complicity in the digital era. Starting with a key note lecture by Prof. Gesa Ziemer the conference established a theoretical framework for a series of interventions by experts from Japan, Netherlands, Austria, USA, Romania and Belarus.     Three parallel workshops took place on the first two days of the conference: November 7th and 8th. Here we explored concrete possibilities of collaboration as well as future scenarios of working together in fields apart. Finally all workshop groups presented their results at the matineé of the Public Talks from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday November 9th.     The conference and the annual focal point serve as the main reference points for a publication on emerging collaboration cultures. The collection of essays and reports is bundled in an Ebook to be published by iRights.Media.     Since the Snowden disclosures, the protagonists of the digital revolution are preparing for a new era of collaboration: hackers and journalists, pirates and capitalists, amateurs and professionals. Yet the common goals are still rife with conflict; there is still a lack of common values and universal practices. Nonetheless, or possibly exactly for that reason, we have become accomplices (in German: Komplizen). What greater problems could be addressed if the supposed opponents put aside their quarrels and work together? How could having a look through someone else’s glasses provide new approaches to finding solutions?
    The all-day event KOMPLIZEN offers workshops (10 am – 4 pm), which bring together hackers and journalists, pirates and capitalists, amateurs and professionals in an attempt to find answers to the question: What should we do together? At the end of the day, a panel (from 5 – 6 pm) offers room for a public debate.
