  • “Community, Social Network and Beyond”: Networking Lounge Oct. 19th

In today’s digitally networked culture it is all about social relations. Yet the “we” of online communities and social networks is a fragile construction and not so easy to sustain. Digital networks are fragmented, never really open, never really closed and consist of loose ties which have a deeply transitory nature. How do community managers deal with such challenges? Is Facebook’s “friend”-paradigm the only future currency of social connections? Can we create networks that have a cause? What is the potential of online communities for social change and knowledge production? How can different formats such as crowdsourcing, collaborative online journalism and social networking learn from each other?

On the second day of the “Networking Lounge” we discussed concrete cases and examples in four parallel workshops. At the end of the day we presented to all the results of the workshop groups for open discussion – the graphic recording of it please find here.
