Social Innovation for Positive Social Change

For couple of years already, Social Innovation Camps, Innovation Labs, Hackathons and other collaborative events bring people from diverse backgrounds together to turn innovative ideas into working prototypes and active communities around them. Regardless the topics – watchdog, transparency, environment, social issues, … such projects face challenges in terms of building communities of active users and ensuring sustainability. What are the lessons learned from similar initiatives from across Europe? How to build successful and sustainable Information and Communication Technology project (ICT) that has real and measurable offline impact? Is social innovation through ICT just another bubble going to burst? Or is there real potential in these tools to find effective solutions to old social challenges and problems?
