We recently came across this screencast that Chris made: Is your Avatar a Gravatar? and we think he did a terrific job of breaking down what gravatar is, and what it does! It’s really awesome
The only thing that we’d like to mention is that gravatar is not specific to WordPress, developers are free to use gravatar for anything. We’ve seen gravatars in non-blog web pages, in lots of different programming languages, and even in desktop applications!

I like gravatar… alot. The biggest issue I’ve had so far is trying to actually access gravatar.com… the thing is down constantly and is seriously the slowest site on the planet…

I love Gravatar as well but I think it’s lacking one major thing mainly in wordpress and other blogs. We need plugins to help the registration process without leaving our comment box.
For example a plugin for wodpress like “Gravatar Signup”, link below.

I was a gravatar devotee until the new method of an account won’t let me have my usual username because someone at wordpress.com already has it? So I can’t even change or delete my current gravatar (which is still a good one) because of the new procedures. *shrug
I like the consistency of having my chosen image next to my name. I use two different emails and it is nice to have both show the same picture.

I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the WordPress.com functionality (if no Gravatar, then Wavatar, or Identicon, or Monster-whatever) to come to WordPress.org.

They’re very useful as most of my forum posters only leave 1-2 messages, so uploading an avatar is a hassle for them. The gravatar system is much better and the recent addition of identicons is a nice touch.

Greatest Uncommon Denominator Magazine‘s now got Gravatars and I’m looking at pulling them into other projects (I do web development, among other things 🙂 ).

Gravitating towards a Gravatar is easy. Corny I know… =0)
I just implemented Gravatar support for members of saabnet.com. Users love it! I’d love to see you guys offer more automatic stuff like this such as blogs, twitter, friendfeed, flickr, links, etc.. People register their social network stuff once, we call the PHP code to the gravatar.com server, and get back all the data for a user to present.

I think my avatar is a gravatar but I’d like to know how I can get it to display next to my posts on my blog. I have lots of authors on my blog and it would be nice to have their personal gravatar next to their post. Anyone know how this can be achieved please.
