Chris Pirillo on Gravatar
May 29, 2008 | Posted by Demitrious Kelly
We recently came across this screencast that Chris made: Is your Avatar a Gravatar? and we think he did a terrific job of breaking down what gravatar is, and what it does! It’s really awesome
The only thing that we’d like to mention is that gravatar is not specific to WordPress, developers are free to use gravatar for anything. We’ve seen gravatars in non-blog web pages, in lots of different programming languages, and even in desktop applications!
So…
*IS* your avatar a Gravatar?
I like gravatar… alot. The biggest issue I’ve had so far is trying to actually access gravatar.com… the thing is down constantly and is seriously the slowest site on the planet…
*grrrr*
…
π
I love Gravatar as well but I think it’s lacking one major thing mainly in wordpress and other blogs. We need plugins to help the registration process without leaving our comment box.
For example a plugin for wodpress like “Gravatar Signup”, link below.

Maybe Automattic could build a working version of this plugin?
Every Body put your hands up in the sky
this is cool
I was a gravatar devotee until the new method of an account won’t let me have my usual username because someone at wordpress.com already has it? So I can’t even change or delete my current gravatar (which is still a good one) because of the new procedures. *shrug
I like the consistency of having my chosen image next to my name. I use two different emails and it is nice to have both show the same picture.
I second this. The Gravatar Signup plugin was great…
Is my avatar a Gravatar? Now it is! Thanks to the team and congratulations from Brazil!
I β€ Gravatars.
I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for the WordPress.com functionality (if no Gravatar, then Wavatar, or Identicon, or Monster-whatever) to come to WordPress.org.
Soon? 2.6?
I use gravatars/identicons on my forum:
http://pixopoint.com/forum/
They’re very useful as most of my forum posters only leave 1-2 messages, so uploading an avatar is a hassle for them. The gravatar system is much better and the recent addition of identicons is a nice touch.
Yep, my avatar is a gravatar. π
I<3gravatars too! π
Rock on. π Only problem is now… for some reason, Gravatars stopped working in my blog theme and I have no idea what happened. π
Yes mine is gravatarized..this neat service needs more publicity though!
Thank you for my Gravatars…..
I want a plugin avatar like perezhilton.com, thats cool! easy and fast, do you know wich one? thanks!

Stoked! My avatar is now all grown up and a Gravatar.
No, seriously… I need help figuring out how / why these gravatars stopped working in WordPress 2.5 and a compatible theme that worked at one point?
Greatest Uncommon Denominator Magazine‘s now got Gravatars and I’m looking at pulling them into other projects (I do web development, among other things π ).
Yes π
I like Gravatar too π
I hope that a lot of sites will participate. Maybe a “Suggest Site” feature will be nice so that “gravatar.com” will be able to contact them and ask them to participate?
[…] more info on Gravatar?Β Check out this info from their blog, linking to a Chris Pirillo […]
Gravitating towards a Gravatar is easy. Corny I know… =0)
I just implemented Gravatar support for members of saabnet.com. Users love it! I’d love to see you guys offer more automatic stuff like this such as blogs, twitter, friendfeed, flickr, links, etc.. People register their social network stuff once, we call the PHP code to the gravatar.com server, and get back all the data for a user to present.

I think my avatar is a gravatar but I’d like to know how I can get it to display next to my posts on my blog. I have lots of authors on my blog and it would be nice to have their personal gravatar next to their post. Anyone know how this can be achieved please.
