Editors’ Notes

With The Inevitable End, the Swedish electronic duo that took the chill room by storm with 2011's Melody A.M. bid farewell to the full-length album format; this will be their last. Forget waxing nostalgic, though: these tracks continue to explore the dark textures and gnarly moods of recent releases. The sinister thump of "Monument" contorts around vocals by Robyn, while the understated "Compulsion" courses with murky energy. But this goodbye is bittersweet: "Sordid Affair" and "Running to the Sea" are both mellifluous and energetic, and the snaking grooves of the closing track, "Thank You," seem to nod toward the pair's beloved debut.

Best Work Yet

I am captivated by Royksopp's work. It is poetic, calming, and emotional. It is beautiful in a way a very unique and powerful way. This album is in my opinion their best. I love every single track except Rong, which is the only explicit track on the album. It is overly profane, repetitive, and seems out of touch with the rest of their work. Not sure why it was included. Overall though a lovely and thrilling album.

"Spin tingle"

My Favorite voices in this horrible industry that exist today! The music is addictive never strays and every time I listen to any of their albums it's like hearing it for the first time, every time! I've been waiting! Thank you! You guys are the best! My new song for fall is defiantly (sordid Affair). It's definitely somber and finally their truest voice!

The End...

I remember hearing “Poor Leno” as a part of the playlist of SSX 3 over a decade ago & became an instant fan. If it wasn’t for Royksopp, I wouldn’t have too much of an interest in electronic music. Thanks for all the great albums through the years.

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Norwegian duo Röyksopp compensated for the cold climes of their native Tromsø by making some of the warmest, most inviting downbeat electronica of the 21st century, exemplified by early tracks like "Eple" and "Poor Leno." The pair, Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge, both grew up in Tromsø and began recording in the early '90s. Local-made-good Geir Jenssen (aka Biosphere) provided tutelage and almost convinced the duo...
