iTunes Editors’ Notes

In the more than five years separating the release of Modern Guilt and Morning Phase, the multifaceted producer/songwriter continued to embellish his prolific, diverse career: he produced a clutch of beautiful albums (including Charlotte Gainsbourg's IRM and Thurston Moore’s Demolished Thoughts) and undertook a number of visionary collaborative projects. With its lushness and atmospheric beauty, Morning Phase is his most accomplished (and straightforward) musical endeavor since his beloved 2002 album, Sea Change. In fact, many of the core musicians who played on Sea Change—including guitarist Smokey Hormel, bassist/multi-instrumentalist Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and ex-Jellyfish keyboardist Roger Joseph Manning Jr.—give Morning Phase its finely detailed instrumental warmth. “Heart Is a Drum” sets the tone early with its glowing combination of acoustic instruments, luxurious electronics, and elegant vocal harmonies. The other meditative highlights include the hazy, impressionistic orchestral sweep of “Wave” and the reflexive multi-tracked melody of “Morning.” This is an achingly beautiful collection of songwriting from one of pop music’s postmodern masters.

What is happening to America

This is the type of music that should be recognized by the Grammies not that Katy perry pop stuff or that rap stuff that isn't good this is worthy music of the recording academy

A Masterpiece

Honestly, this is the best album I have heard in awhile. Period. The layers, the depth, and the overall experience is breathtaking. For anyone who sees this album as "boring" or "slow", I would suggest buying a quality pair of headphones and immersing yourself in this masterpiece.

Kanye West is a douche!

I bought it because Kanye is garbage, a sore loser, loser, and a no talent hack!

Initially pegged as the voice of a generation when "Loser" turned into a smash crossover success, Beck wound up crystallizing much of the postmodern ruckus inherent in the '90s alternative explosion, but in unexpected ways. Based in the underground anti-folk and noise-rock worlds, Beck encompassed all manner of modern music, drawing in hip-hop, blues, trash rock, pop, soul, lounge music — pretty much any found sound or vinyl dug up from a dusty crate — blurring boundaries and encapsulating...
