Editors’ Notes

Even before her gorgeous 2012 debut, Devotion, we were captivated by Jessie Ware—her elegant cameos added simmering substance to hits from the likes of SBTRKT and Sampha. The South Londoner's second full-length has more spark than the first album’s candle-lit glow, but Ware’s signature sound—all heart-melting croon and late-night electro-soul grooves—makes Tough Love mesmerizing. The bass-heavy pulse of the title track captivates from the very beginning, showcasing the singer’s feather-light vocal against a minimal backing. Tough Love’s other great moments include the Sade-inspired "Sweetest Song” and "Say You Love Me” (which was co-written with Ed Sheeran). But ultimately, its Ware’s singing—subtle, romantic, and filled with yearning—that has us cueing up Tough Love again as soon as it’s finished.

Customer Reviews

She is Lovely

This woman’s voice is so soothing and gracefully composed. Her music is simply heavenly.

Exquisite

I became familiar with her music on a dream trip I took to Spain and fell in live. She is purely talented and doesn't need to flash her parts to be noticed.

Absolutely Stunning Album

I've been a fan of Mrs. Ware since "Devotion" and I can say that she really outdid herself. This is a great 2nd album! She seems to have really gained more confidence in her voice since her first album and is even going more into her upper register (which I LOVE). This album deserves attention, DO NOT sleep on Jessie Ware!

A diverse handful of guest appearances and solo singles across 2010 and 2011 situated Jessie Ware in a line of remarkable soul-inspired U.K. vocalists including Tracey Thorn, Sade, Lisa Stansfield, and Caron Wheeler. Ware, a native of South London, England, arrived with background vocals for Man Like Me and Jack Peñate and took the lead on RackNRuin's "Soundclash," where she revealed a voice powerful enough to be heard and felt over a frantic breakbeat-driven production. By the end of 2010, she issued...
