Album Review

Though Jessie J's 2013 album Alive had several singles enter the U.K. Top 40, it did little in the U.S. J followed the ballad-heavy set with Sweet Talker, a collection of songs tailored to regain her footing as a pop star in the States. At the very least, this album is a lot more energetic: filled with cameos by American artists as well as collaborations with A-list producers, Sweet Talker is the opposite of what came before it. Sometimes the too-much-is-never-enough approach actually works: "Bang Bang," the Max Martin-produced hit single that presented J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj as a saucy girl group for the 2010s, goes so over the top with pop fizz that it demands listeners' attention. While it's arguable that Minaj's mile-a-minute rapping and 2014's pop It Girl Grande steal the show from Jessie, "Bang Bang" did get her back on the charts and on people's minds in the U.S. The rest of Sweet Talker finds J trying as many sounds and styles as possible. The album's second single, "Burnin' Up," nods to rap via a cameo by 2 Chainz and to EDM with strobing synths; elsewhere, she returns to P!nk-esque pop on "Masterpiece" and "Said Too Much," a decent riff on "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" and the brash attitude of her debut on "Ain't Been Done." Elsewhere, "Seal Me with a Kiss," which features De La Soul, channels "Bang Bang"'s sense of fun into playful retro-soul with hip-hop flair, while "Keep Us Together" opts for a more mature R&B pop sound. The Most Underrated Vocalist Out There

This girls voice is incredible, and it's crazy to think that she hasn't made it big in America. She has one of, if not the, greatest voices of this generation. BUY THIS ALBUM!

A real vocalist

Let's talk about how Jessie J is a real vocalist and this album is going to be completely flawless like her.

As I keep telling my friends and family...

My friends and family think I'm NUTS on account of my obsession with Jessie J...lol! Been telling them for a year-and-a-half now that 2014 is the year of Jessie J...they just laugh and say, "Who?" I just reply, "I'm tellin' ya! You wait..."

Jessie J is the definition of talent. TRUE talent. Her vocals are CRAZY and almost always spot-on. She has an incredible range and can jump from low-end to upper register and back again with ease. Her interpretation of the music via her vocal nuances and ad-libs are just phenomenal (especially when singing acoustically). She writes/co-writes 99.5% of all her songs. She can rap. She can scat. Anything that might be perceived as 'digital trickery', isn't; it's actually her manipulating her voice. She doesn't use (or rarely uses) Auto-tune. She never lip-syncs. And she can cover any song...and usually blow the original out the water. There really isn't anything (vocally-speaking) that she can't do...she is THAT good. The BEST, to be honest. Top it off with a great, down-to-earth, NORMAL (yet quirky) personality...with a terrific sense of humor and a healthy lifestyle, and Jessie J is MONEY.

One more notable! Her band is FANTASTIC also! SO much talent in the bunch. Love 'em all...but particularly her guitarist, Lewie, and her backing vocalist, Phebe...MAD skillz. Jessie's interaction with her team during shows is excellent...as is her engagement with the audience/fans...and she is high-energy the ENTIRE time. Well-worth any money you would spend on an album, a show, a tour t-shirt, a meet-n-greet, etcetera. All-in-all, just the bee's knees!!!! :)
