Editors’ Notes

Don't expect this record to answer its titular question: While SBTRKT's second full-length is a whirlwind tour of textures and moods, it never settles anywhere; that is its genius. Just look at the guest list: A$AP Ferg, Ezra Koenig, Jessie Ware, and others are sonically far-flung but united under these songs' searching grooves. SBTRKT's beats range from the sub-bass–drenched post-dubstep of the title track to the dark, gargled techno of "NEW DORP.NEW YORK" and the warped quiet storm of "Problem (Solved)." As cerebral and inventive as it is viscerally engaging, Wonder is a dark, dizzying thrill.

Customer Reviews

(a little) disappointing

i have nothing against sbtrkt's sound changing but i expected more after the debut album, which was better than this one

(edit: it’s been growing on me. it definitely, as people have said, takes some listening to. i still don’t find it to be particularly valuable relative to sbtrkt’s previous album, but it definitely has merits more than my previous rating of 2 stars)

great

very good. Gon stay, temporary view, higher, the title track and maybe are some of the best songs. Big Sbtrtkt fan here.

Not as many actual songs as you would have thought, but still good. The title track seemed sortve anticlimactic, but sbtrkt does what he wants.

Intellectually Orchestrated

Another amazing album! This album really plays on both dark and light sides of synthetic music, and complements the human voice with both. Can't wait till I have the full thing!!

The project's name was intended to remove the identity of any one person from the music, and SBTRKT even performed with a mask on to preserve that concept. After years of honing his craft, in 2009 Jerome sent tracks to DJs including BBC Radio 1's Graeme Sinden and Mary Anne Hobbs, who made...
