iTunes Review
Whether he’s sung of political upheavals or the survival of everyday dreams, Jackson Browne has recorded some of the most eloquent songs of our era. His lyrics have traced his quest for insight in a world of heartbreak and temptation. On Solo Acoustic Vol. 1, Browne glances back over the high points of his four-decade career with renewed creative fire. Distilled from a series of intimate live performances, these tracks feature the singer/songwriter backed only by his own acoustic guitar and piano. From the youthful introspection of “These Days” through the outraged commentary of “Lives in the Balance” and the mature reflection of “Looking East,” Browne revisits some of his most enduring works. Also included is a never-before-recorded tune, the haunting “Birds of St. Marks.” An essential document from a legendary career, Solo Acoustic Vol. 1, is Jackson Browne at his most nakedly personal and profoundly moving.

An excellent representation of a master at work
Jackson Browne has a voice for all ages that will sustain through the test of time. From "The Pretender" to "Too Many Angels", Browne reminds us once again that his songs and music are beautiful in their simplicity, yet touch the soul. I'd like to have this very album without the applause and the Intros (put the intros on a separate disk). You can't listen to the album in peace all the way through...
Jackson Browne acoustic set for the purists
Being a Jackson Browne fan I was anxious to compare this live offering to what I witnessed at his concert a year ago, in which he performed the first set completely solo. It is right on the money. The sound quality is outstanding. Because the music of Jackson Browne is such a poetic rendering of his personal disappointments and the pain from a number of his failed relationships, the music and the story really do sound best when everything but Jackson and his guitar or piano are stripped out. This album delivers that sound and feeling exquisitely. Another advantage of the way the album is presented is that with a little editing, you can create one seamless track of the entire concert set from start to finish. You almost have to be experiencing depression or suffering from a terminated relationship to feel the message all the way to your core, but anyone who has been there loves the way this music is presented. To a real Jackson Browne afficianado, there is nothing so great as just listening to Jackson and his guitar.
Enjoyable and well-phrased commentary on our times
Jackson Browne is one of those artists who manage to avoid categorization. The songs included here span several topics and in the "unplugged" mode focus one's attention much more on the artist and the message as opposed to a slickly-produced "studio" sound. It is clear that Mr. Browne has something to say and these cuts are worth a listen. Note to Mr. Browne's Producer: I could live without the audience noises after every single track. One would assume an artist of Mr. Browne's talents would garner appropriate applause during a live performance. The yelling, cheering, whistling and clapping get old in a hurry, and you would think intelligent artists would throttle any record producer who felt such sounds "belong" on the permanent record of the artist's work. These sounds are an irritant and annoyance, and diminish the impact of the music. Artists work for applause, listeners purchase music for the song, not the crowd noise.
