The Taming of the ShrewA Ballet by John Cranko after William Shakespeare
Choreographed in 1969 by the legendary John Cranko, this technically virtuoso and irresistibly comic Taming of the Shrew remains a landmark production of the Stuttgart Ballet.
In Padua, three gentlemen, Hortensio, Lucentio and Gremio, are assiduously courting the sweet Bianca. But Baptista, the girl's father, refuses to marry her until Catharina, her older sister with a terrible temper, has a ring on her finger. The three suitors manage to convince Petruchio, whom they met in a tavern, to ask for the hand of the reluctant damsel. Petruchio challenges himself to win over - and soften - the beautiful Catharina.
