And I want to see Klaus and have a POV snippet featuring the ex inlaws seeing a copy of the wedding invite. Ripper cushions would ensue.

It seems that a Samoa is a type of cookie. Made with shortbread covered in coconut and caramel and a bit of chocolate. Usually sold as a fund raiser.
We do not have them under that name in my part of the world. Looks good tho. (I love coconut cookies)

Last night was a huge comedy of errors at the house with me ending up becoming one handed due to burns on all five fingers and the plam of my hand. I Picked up a moist hot pad and pulled out a 425 degree cookie sheet from oven and barely stopped from dropping it onto kitchen floor. Stupid me. Then more fun started happening and one just had to laugh. Ciao for now.

My sister had the same reaction to HL. I showed her some of the covers from other languages in the fan group and one of them intrigued her so she finally tried it.
I never read any PNR because of the tendency publishers have of putting covers on it that really don’t work for me. And there’s a whole saying about books and covers, right?! Still, I judged, sooo hard. And then Hidden Legacy happened, and IA trumped cover, and basically half of everything I’ve read since has been PNR cuz it turns out that the genre _rocks_ and I have a lot to catch up on 😝
E-book reader or Book Jacket/Sleeve is the way to go; no cover to embarrass yourself with!
Although I know exactly what you mean about covers; I’ve never touched Terry Prachett because of the cartoon covers used to make me queasy – even with the new ones, still been put off by the older covers.
I know! I have totally the same idea! Until a friend basically twisted my arm to read Hogfather (it’s the right time of year for it, just sayin’ 😉) and then I started to change my mind. Took me a book or two but once I was hooked, that was it… I can recommend brown packing paper 😉

If you eat them room temp, yes, it’s a munch. But if you chill them, they nibble very satisfactorily. Might get a little chocolate on the fingers, but a surreptitious lick can take care of that.
My KD fandom membership is sort of like the People: veneered in civility designed to lull everyone into believing that I am not actually just a stable full of bookthirsty beasts demanding a constant supply of literature.
I have my fingers crossed for Iron and Magic 2 next year; Iron and Magic basically has its own dedicated slavering hoard of said bookthirsty beasts. Wordpires, maybe? Will have to think on that.
As a KD fan, I would be stealing the ICs’ Thin Mints as I went about my horde duties. 😀

I love all your books but I gotta say KD will always have a special place in my heart. They were the first books written by you guys that I read when I was about 16 years old. Every summer after my birthday I knew I would get another Kate Daniels book and it was the best feeling in the world. Must have been over 12 years ago now so it’s officially my longest relationship.
That is why we get kinda crazy sometimes, your books mean a lot. Over 10 years of teenage drama, exams, graduations, breakups and new relationships, first job, first apartment, getting married…it almost feels like we grew up along the characters and that does make us go a bit overboard sometimes.

The most “ranty” I ever got as a fan was when I hit the end of Saphire Flames. For a solid week I was all “NOOOO!!! This was billed as a Romance! Romances aren’t allowed to have cliffs at the end! They have obligatory HEA’s!!!!”
*sigh* Still wondering how the heck I got so worked up over that.
That wasn’t a cliff… it was a teaser. The story as it was was self-contained with a lot of leakage into the world as built in Burn For Me. We even got to see a reclamation project set up shop in Bug’s former home in the swamp.

So I love them all. Yall are one of about 10 authors I pre-order everything for, before I bother to read the synopsis. I also have all of your books in both kindle and paperback. THis includes all the singles and Kinsmen and edge series etc. But I don’t necessarily buy all the merch and roar my enthusiasm the way you describe KD fans, or be as chill as the IC or HL fans. Maybe because I’m a mix of all?? Still, I did get my dad to read the KD and IC series. And hooked my sister, which made her mad because the IC series isn’t finished and she wants more. and I have read all the IC books to my husband during road trips….(I wish the audio versions had been out when I did, It was harder than I expected but he liked them) Also Forger thing??? OOOOOooooo. ^.^
I love all the series, but Hidden Legacy and Hugh’s KD spinoff are my 2 favorites. I can’t wait to read Julie’s spinoff next month!

Leon would be out on a firing range with Andrea, discussing pros and cons of their favorite firearms.
Raphael would be figuring out how to make good use of Leon’s talents.
Ascanio would see Leon as competition.
Andrea is just as good with a crossbow as a gun and I don’t think we’ve seen either Leon or Alessandro demonstrate that.

As a fan who has also (borderline obsessively) reread the Kinsmen and Edge series multiple times I agree that there might be a “quietish” corner of the room where we are just sipping an espresso and watching the action! Also throwing in the “forger thing” is just to perfect. Let the teeth gnashing and nail biting begin!!
This post reminded of something I wanted to ask. It might just be me misremembering, but I remember you saying that you swapped from Rene Rodman because the books which were scheduled were with different narrators (ie, KD’s series was over, Sweep of the Blade was the next IC, 1st HL trilogy was over) and you wanted to have a new VA to reflect that.
Is there a reason why Rene didn’t narrate Sweep with Me?

I’m a fan since day one of everything you have ever written (or at least published in any form), no matter which universe. So, long time fan. And I really like Alphas: Origins, even (especially) the slightly more gritty? version that was first published online – but also the more streamlined published version. I honestly don’t think IA have ever published anything I did not love. So, tea drinking, thin mint eating cookie baker who (obviously) uses her sword to bring said cookies into nice shapes.
I love this! Everything by IA is just the best, but it’s hard to to beat KD and HL. I re-read these series on the regular and it’s amazing everytime! More Kate, Curran, Hugh, Elara, Julie, Derek, Nevada and Rogan please!

Yup I’m a fan of all of your work but I re read IC all the time and love it the most! I think of it this way KD was my first love but IC is my adult love.

As I drink my teapot sized mug of Assam with Milk thinking yes indeed, the reason I really really like all these books (Innkeeper first, HL second, KD last because sometimes the violence in KD is too detailed for my head) is because they all take into account of the importance of food. For real. Food grounds the books in a way I never really realized before you pointed out the tea party catering. Cheers! Bless all the writers for helping us get through this year.

I love all three. But it is a different relationship. I re-read the KD series the most often. It’s the most satisfying as there is an end. Slaying enemies, good versus evil. And there is a HEA. But when I recommend someone try your books it’s always Innkeeper. It’s the most even I feel. And the most accessible to everyone, it has a lighter feel than KD and you can see yourself staying at the Inn and loving it. I think I’d bore the hell out of Kate, but I think Dina and I would have a nice time having tea together. Not mentioned, but I also really like the Edge series. I re-read that one too. Mostly the first two books. The first one is an all time favorite. As for Hidden Legacy, I think I prefer UF to the romance heavy Hidden Legacy. That said, there are moments that are priceless: ferret and badger raid!
As for Iron and Magic, that was AWESOME. Blew me away. I’m with your daughter on that. I know it’s been hard to write for you. And I understand that. But just the glimpse of where Hugh and Elara wind up in KD #10 keeps me so excited. I cant’ wait to read their journey.

I also usually use Innkeeper as the gateway book when introducing people. It is lighter in tone and more comedic but also highlights a lot of creativity and character. If they like Innkeeper then they will likely also appreciate Kate’s sense of humor

only three times? each time a new book came out i had to reread every book in the series to be up on the new book. Plus, what’s not to love and rereading a good story is never wasted time. You are on my favorite author, automatic buy list, up there with Dick Francis, Lois McMaster Bujold , Anne Maccaffrey, Shelly Laurenston and Nalini Singh, Michelle West and Martha Wells, wow, my list is getting longer than i thought. But you are in good company.
I am all the fandoms. There isn’t a thing you two have written that I haven’t loved. I will happily consume whatever you produce and ask for more when possible. Thanks for all extras and interaction you have. It is the best part of following your favorite authors. I am super excited about Blood Heir. Because I am still chanting Julie Julie Julie. She has been a character I have always loved and often wondered about. I can’t wait to see where the next HL goes but ho boy is that great stuff. And the next innkeeper is gonna rock socks. Sitting here drinking coffee without cookies at all, I’m wondering why there’s a “forger thing” coming and with Blood Heir, that’s two new series’ in the works (we all know Blood Heir can’t be the only book with Julie as the main character!) while I sit and fidget and wonder where Dina’s parents are and how on earth Houston will hold together under the weight of what’s happening there with the newest Rogan born and Allesandro moving in. My normal MO is to wait until a series is completely written before I will touch book 1, but hey, it’s IA, so I grab what you offer and read it without knowing when or if another book will follow it.
I never cared for Hugh. His story was only interesting in the ways he related to Kate. I read the first Iron and Magic once and done. I have never done that with anything else I’ve ever found written by you.
Blood Heir could be interesting. Lots of backstory filling in to find out how everybody has changed over the years, but I’m sure it’ll all be there. I just kind of left Kate and her whole world behind to live HEA in my mind. Now she’s in trouble again. Good thing she adopted that blonde waif way back when!
Another year to wait for Catalina’s story to be finished. *heavy sigh* And then there was purported to be another threesome with Arabella as the main character. Meanwhile, Maud is still single, her brother came to see her, and we’re all holding our breath to find out how that turns out.
In other words, get through Christmas and toast the new year when it arrives, then back to the grindstone for you both! Your office is heated and cooled now as needed, the vaccines are on the way, and we’re all ready for some fantastic fiction! Enjoy your break.

Never made inquiries because I understood your reluctance to deal with the, as you said, darkness of the characters and and subject matter of the book. So, thank you so much for the update.

Here I am, day five in strep throat hell, and I laughed so hard I cried! I am definitely a card carrying member of the KD horde, but I would totally hang with all the others.

All in all, I am grateful for IA and the wonderful worlds that they have given us passports too!
I would be that fat kid on the corner gorging on all the cookies (AKA Ilona Andrews books – every genre) and betting the fight comes down to a draw.
Kid 2 is now the honorary general of the BDH KD cohort. And we eat steaks and chocolate cake. But truthfully, I love all the series. I’m sure I’ll love the forger thing, too. But 2020 has been kind of a year and KD makes me feel better. Why? Because they’re fighting the effects of an apocalypse and shifts in government and society. And the good guys win with magic and swords. KD reminds me not to quit, even when things look bad. Thank you for all the stories you write. They’ve helped me get through these very weird times. But before I go, I wouldn’t be a true KD cohort member if I didn’t ask what publisher we have to march on in order to get a Blood Heir series. I’ll be over in the corner, sharpening my spear.

I agree completely. One of the things I love about KD is that it is really about a resilient world. Things are a mess, there is always some evil god or mythological being wreaking havoc, but people still find a way to live through it and find people and things worth working towards. There are people like Kate who care about others even when the world is a complete mess. People go to work everyday and live their lives even when the apocalypse continues. If Kate and her family can live their lives in Post-Shift Atlanta I can definitely deal with a pandemic.

I have a ton of authors I am crazy about but none of them have created 4 different universes that I can’t seem to stop obsessing over. I’m a fan of all of them! So, do we go on the rampage first, then relax with tea and cookies? Or maybe we eat first to keep our strength up, Idk.
Love the “movie in the head.” But seriously, folks…Innkeeper and Hidden Legacy have helped keep my sanity this year. And I loved every book of Kate Daniels, and can scarcely wait for the sequel to Iron and Magic. Now I sound like all the needy, greedy fans. Alcott called her fans voracious, lionizing Oliver Twists, so I guess fandom has not changed in a hundred years. With that thought in mind, I’ll just end off here by asking, please keep writing. You write it, I’ll buy it and read it. If you need a break, I will be patient. The world is a better place when I can hide a while in your books.

Hey Ilona, A while ago you had a blog post about book recommendations and you had recommended the Pathfinder series by TA White. I liked that series, and her Dragon ridden series too but my favorite is the Firebird series. It’s sci fi mostly , and I don’t know if your tracking the new book’s release but it’s on December 15 so this will tied me over till Julie’s book gets released in January. I can’t wait for that. Yippee!!

I’m not mad at this description at all. I love the humor in Innkeeper Chronicles, HOWEVER… Kate Daniels sings to my *slightly (and that’s all I’m admitting to) violent soul, and and soothes me with the sarcasm. This is a great comparison among the series, especially since Curran has been my book husband 10+ years. Thank you for this great intermingled mind clip!
I love all their books but the possibility for all the different worlds involved and potential characters are so limitless with this series as it’s a combination of magic and sci fi and urban fantasy all rolled up into one. The Inn keeper character is so different than any other protagonist role I’ve read before. Mix that in with Texas personalities and the Inn. It’s sentient. It’s incredible. I’d love to visit an Inn like that for my vacation! Ha.
I…I didn’t realize we had to choose. I love them all, although the kinsmen series does have a special spot in my heart. KD was the series that brought me in and I’ve never left. IA is one of the few authors where I would buy a book with no title, no summary, and a TBD release day just on the strength that I’ve enjoyed everything IA has written, including Alphas Origins which was not quite up my alley.
Guess I am one of the weirdos. I like most of your books, but really love the Innkeeper Chronicles. Hope we see more of them soon. Thank you for the writings.

I had to go onto my computer to search in Pinterest properly. You search and then choose the drop-down option for people. Ilona Andrews is the only person with that name and the character is similar to what she uses to comment on this webpage. The Innkeeper Chronicles Pinterest tab does not have any food pictures.

Well if you think of all the fans of a fan base being modelled after the main protagonists of the series you can begin to understand why KD fans are a little extra. In short, because Kate is.
I feel like people who are big Edge fans run that way also. Cerise Mar and William are very, very extra in the best way (and don’t forget Kaldar). I would be extra too if I’d had the “way of the lightning blade” thing as a central part of my childhood.
Can I say that you only have yourself to blame? 🙂 Written the way the KD books are, I don’t see how it could go any other way….Now just imagine if you’d started the Inkeeper Series with Maud! You could have raised whole generations of blood thirsty fans and their blood thirsty children!

Same, same. In the last nine months there have been like five times where I went, “wow, I am super sick of being stuck in my house and homeworked to death. Let me go reread the entire Andrews catalog of books. Again.” And then I feel happy just anticipating.
This is the truth. I have to admit to being all of those things, and it brings me great joy. Also, for the record, I think HL is a romance or at least if it’s not “a romance” it falls under the umbrella of the romance genre somewhere– though my opinion is certainly not the be-all end-all on that. So excited for Iron and Magic 2! I love Elara. I love Hugh. I love how they react to each other. I love their hot, hot chemistry and crazy magic. Thank you for writing.
Ok I’ve put on my IC fan hat cause I just listened to my new favorite Christmas song,Under the Mistletoe, by Kelly Clarkson and Brett Eldridge and I could imagine Dina lip syncing this song to Sean in the kitchen in a private moment or the living room with the Inn all decorated for Christmas and imagine the walls shaking to the beat of the music. 🤣. When I asked kid 2 what ” FUS RO DAH” meant I got a 10 minute lecture on the intricacies of learning dragon language so that added to my entertainment. AND, I managed to get another KD plug in with him. After reading the comments

Wow, I wish I had time for all of that fan love. I love y’alls books and they have gotten me through my undergrad and are getting me through Veterinary school. KD is badass and keeps me going in the middle of the week (if Kate can handle the Keep madness I can handle avian respiratory histology). I gotta say y’alls blog and general glimpses into life is amazing to catch up on when I am neglecting my own lol.
I guess I’m trying to say thanks. Y’all are neat people are I love your stories! Keep being awesome and keep being people with interesting lives and opinions. I enjoy reading about my favorite author’s even if it is at 2 am after calling it a night. Keep being human and dgaf to what people say (including me haha!)

Red tea from Innkeeper. This keeps bothering me. I love tea and I like trying new tea (my husband says I have a problem).

I love all you series but I admit KD is in last place, only because I love the others more. If I could have my Christmas wish it would be a short story or even a snippet of a couple of scenes at the Inn. I would love to see Helen’s first Christmas with the presents from Bahs Char and Orro’s feast. And Sean’s parents too.

I play a game with myself when I have to kill time call “who would I like to meet in….”. So I pick a book series and it can only be secondary characters and the one who wins the most is Orro. I would most likely be in the IC group because of him. My husband thinks I’m nuts because every time I read the IC series I keep saying “I wish I could try his food.” Lol. But seriously I think it’s a testament to how through and amazing your worlds and characters are (and how nuts your fans are. Lol)
OMG! Iron and magic 2!! I’m in love with the first book, can’t wait to know more about Hugh and Elara.
The first IA books I read were the ones in the KD series. But, in all honesty, I like HL and IC better, in about equal amounts. I still think there should be a Galactic War between the vampires + allies versus the inn keeper corruptors + children eaters and I would greatly enjoy a trilogy featuring the “cool aunt” rooting out the Cesar conspiracy (just don’t make Grampa Linus the Bad Guy!).
