Peter Beard: In Memoriam

“It does the heart good,” said Peter Beard, “to see what nature has made available to us.” After disappearing from his home in Montauk, New York, on March 31, he has returned to nature, which was always at the center of his creative work. A visionary artist, he used photography, drawing, and collage to document a vanishing world, from the destruction of wildlife in Africa to all that glittered at Studio 54. His adventures were the stuff of Hemingway and Byron—Peter was the life of the party, he courted controversy, and lived life entirely on his own terms. May his passionate spirit continue to inspire us all.
