Social Media Day

The cities of Buffalo, N.Y.; Manchester, N.H.; and McAllen, Texas, have all proclaimed June 30 as Social Media Day. This brings the count to 17 cities and three U.S. states that are celebrating Social Media Day under an official proclamation.

The Buffalo Social Media Club is holding its event at Lobby Bar at Statler City. Proceeds from the $5 entry fee will be donated to Computers for Children, Inc. The celebration will have food and drink specials, a live DJ, networking and informational tables from organizations in the surrounding area.

Social Media Day Manchester N.H. is sponsored by Altos Marketing and will be hosted outdoors at The Patio Manchester. This will be Manchester’s third annual Social Media Day celebration.

The McAllen, Texas, Social Media Day celebration is the first Social Media Day celebration in the Rio Grande Valley, said organizer Ruby Martinez. The event will feature guest speakers discussing the importance of using social media in education, local businesses and for public safety. Martinez expects about 75 people to attend the event.

Mashable began Social Media Day three years ago as a way to recognize the digital revolution. Participation more than doubled last year with more than 1,400 Meetups and thousands of attendees. This year is expected to be even bigger and better.
