Bulldog Adopts Litter of Orphaned Kittens

Courtesy Max Oden/Dothan EagleCourtesy Max Oden/Dothan EagleMolly, a two-year old American Bulldog, is one busy pooch. She gave birth to a litter of puppies only six weeks ago, and now she has a bunch of hungry kittens to look after too.

According to the Dothan Eagle, when mother cat "Kitty Kitty" was hit by a car, Molly allowed her four orphaned kittens to nurse. Both dog and cat were raised by Elbert Bristow, 84, of Columbia, Alabama. They gave birth only a day apart. "I've had dogs all my life. I've trained bird dogs and coon dogs," Bristow told the Eagle, "but this is the first time I've ever had a dog take a litter of kittens."

Bristow says the kittens, which include one orange, one white, one grey and white, and one with Siamese-type markings, follow Molly around just like she was their mom. She spends 5 to 10 minutes with them at a time, and lies down and lets them eat. Bristow keeps the puppies separated on another part of his property.

"It is unusual, very unusual," says Bristow. Still, it's not the first time a dog has adopted a kitten. Dogs have been documented mothering cats, piglets, and even baby tigers.

Fighting over healthcare proves you right. This dog isn't the mom yet she is taking care of these kittens and not once complained about it. Sad that it's not in every human's nature to do the same for those in need.

pets have more compassion and love in them than most people. humans could learn a lesson from them.

Maybe these kittens will grow up being able to be trained to fetch.

Interesting question, 'someotherguy'. I wonder exactly what identifying with a dog- as-mom will teach the kitties.

Hope when he says that he keeps the puppies separate from their mother on another part of the property he means just until the kittens have nursed.

This looks more like a pit cross to me but in any event amazing bully breed :) they get such bad raps and mostly because of people and media. A few months back a puppy killed a kid and they reported it as a bull dog p[it mix turned out by DNA testing it was a lab like most attacks this year. Please dont buy into the hype these are wonderful dogs if trained and treated correctly :) never will love any other type type more then the pittybull :)

it is something animals can get along and be there for one another but people can not and look the other way
    • Gizmo  •  17 minutes ago
Molly is so cute and adorable and so are the kittens. If only humans would get along like that. If people would raise the dogs with love and affection and not be mean or abuse them they will turn out to be great dogs. I have been around some pittbulls and they were raised with love and played alot and now they are just big lovable and happy dogs

Touching story.........BUT I HOPE SHE SPAYS AND NUERTERS HER PETS!!!!! These are not pedigree animals and while I could could less if an animal is a pedigree, THEY USUALLY FIND HOMES!!!! BE RESPONSIBLE AND STERILIZE YOUR PETS!!!! Too many dog/cats are euthanized EVERY DAY due to not having a home!!!
