CollegeRecruiter.com Founder Selected to Present at National Association of Colleges and Employers 2010 Annual Conference
November 30, 2009 by Steven RothbergMINNEAPOLIS, MN, November 30, 2009 – Steven Rothberg, President and Founder of CollegeRecruiter.com, has been selected as one of the presenters at the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) 2010 Annual Conference in Orlando next June.
“I’ve had the good fortune to be a presenter at the NACE annual conferences before and am excited about doing so again next spring. NACE conferences are always very well attended because they know what content their attendees want, don’t accept payments of any kind in return for speaking slots like some other conferences do, and are impeccably organized,” said Steven Rothberg. -
140 Bite-Sized Ideas for Managing Millennials
by Steven RothbergOne of the country’s foremost experts on workplace challenges, including how to recruit and manage Gen Y (also known as the Millennials), is Alexandra Levit. I first encountered her fine work in the Wall Street Journal and since that time have had the good fortune to read hundreds and perhaps thousands of her articles, blogs, and tweets.
Alexandra recently added to her publishing arsenal with a new book, #MILLENNIALtweet. The book, as the title of this blog suggests, contains 140 bite-sized ideas for managing members of Gen Y / Millennials. As all avid users of Twitter will recognize, the 140 idea is not random. Rather, it is equal to the number of characters you’re allowed in each of your Twitter postings (also known as tweets). -
An Anesthesiologist’s Salary Could Make You Light-headed, But is it the Right Career for You?
by Candice AThe field of health care is one where there will always be a need to fill jobs in a variety of areas. Anesthesiology is one of the most important areas. An anesthesiologist’s salary, even at the entry level, is quite impressive but this is not a profession that’s suitable for everyone.
An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who gives patients drugs (anesthesia) to prepare them for surgery. These drugs are designed to prevent patients from feeling pain. During surgery, it’s the anesthesiologist’s job to monitor the patients’ vital signs and adjust the drug dosages accordingly. The anesthesiologist continues to monitor patients after surgery, and it’s he or she who determines when patients are ready to leave the recovery room. -
Self-Motivation Isn’t Only a Problem for Telecommuters
by Candice AStaying motivated during the day is one of the biggest challenges for some telecommuters. So corporate trainer and public speaker, Steve Chandler, has come up with 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself (Revised Edition), for anyone who struggles with self-motivation.
One method (number two on the list), “staying hungry,” comes from “The Governator” himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who once told Chandler that he would achieve success as an actor using the same method he used to achieve success as a bodybuilder: “What you do is create a vision of who you want to be, and then live into that picture as if it were already true,” Schwarzenegger said. -
Missouri’s New OTA Programs
by Candice AThe Missouri Health Professions Consortium (MHPC) has admitted their first OTA class and will be off the ground and running in January. I had the pleasure of visiting each campus and was welcomed by an overwhelming excitement for this new program. The admission office and career centers eagerly listened as I descibed our Tuition Assistance Program and discussed the opportunities we have for their students while in school and after graduation. University of Missouri – Columbia has done a great job at administering and coordinating theis OTA program with State Fair Community College, East Central Community College and Moberly Area Community College; RehabCare is proud to be a part of this new adventure. The Hidden Job Market
by Candice AArticle provided by Brand-Yourself.com
If your having trouble landing a job it may just be because you aren’t looking in the right places. According to the Labor Department’s most recent data, over 15 million people in America are out of work. That’s over five job seekers per opening. While this is great for employers, it also means that they get positively overran by applicants the second they post something on a job board.
That is why over 80% of today’s jobs aren’t advertised. So how are you supposed to find a job when there 5 applicants for every job and 80% of those jobs are nearly impossible to find? The answer is more simple than one would think: network, network, network. -
Accounting and Finance Sustained Less Damage Than Some Other Industries
by Candice ALike many other career fields, accounting and finance experienced its share of setbacks in 2009.
“Based on market conditions, we have seen a significant decrease in the quantity of hiring in 2009,” said Matt Beck, managing director of the Mergis Group executive recruitment firm in Miami. “The current economic recession has caused companies to ‘do more with less,’ and try to get by with existing staff versus hiring additional staff.”
Some companies chose to cut costs by hiring temporary employees to fill gaps in their workforce on an as-needed basis. “It is important to realize that despite the financial crisis and the recession, the demand for skilled A & F professionals is again showing signs of life, with the unemployment rate for the sector around seven percent, while the U.S. as a whole is pushing ten percent,” explained Beck. -
Talent Strategies For Post-Recession: Prepare to Connect
by Candice AIn September, The Conference Board predicted that salary increases for 2010 would only be 3% (lowest in 25 years). In Canada, increases are projected to be only 2.8%. Unemployment hit an all-time high in October. But manufacturers and retailers are predicting turnarounds in 2010, and that means jobs won’t be far behind. What does that mean for talent? It means it’s time to strategize and time to connect. It’s not just social networking, it’s a conversation. Your candidates want to talk.
I did a survey recently of job seekers to see how their habits have changed over the past year. Now the recession certainly has been going longer than that, but 12 months of change will tell you a great deal about the habits of job seekers. I had planned to cull a list of top trends for companies to pay attention to in preparing their talent strategies for 2010, but there’s truly only one thing to keep in mind about your job seekers: They’re online. And they’re looking for you. Not your company, but you.
When it comes to talent and recruiting, being reactive is the worst possible strategy. After all, when the economy does turn, all of the great talent in the market will diminish quickly, and unprepared companies will be left scrambling. In order to be proactive, it is important to see what’s changed since the economy turned. And for 2010, it’s all about the connections. Continue reading …

Finding Unadvertised Internships
by Candice AA successful internship search often requires that you follow more than one strategy. Students who apply online for internships are only tapping into a very small fraction of all of the opportunities that are available. Uncovering unadvertised internships often provides students with a wealth of opportunities that they had no idea even existed.
Networking with family, friends, and alumni from your college, possessing self-confidence, developing expertise in a specific area, conducting informational interviews, and sending post-interview thank you notes to employers, are all strategies that work to make an internship search more successful.
