Most U.S. Employers Report They’ve Gone Green

Going “green” in the workplace can lead to more green in the bank according to a new survey released today from Buck Consultants, an independent subsidiary of ACS, A Xerox Company. The survey showed that the number of U.S. employers with formal “green workplace” programs rose significantly last year with many organizations reporting cost savings from reduced use of paper and electricity.
Buck’s second annual “Greening of the American Workplace 2009″ survey showed 53 percent of employers have green programs in place, an increase from 43 percent last year. Among the organizations that have a formal green program, more than half have implemented the following offerings:

Do I need a passport to visit Arizona?

Such a question would have been laughable just months ago. As a U.S. citizen, of course there has never been a reason for me to carry my passport or other proof of residency / citizenship around with me regardless of where I am in the U.S. That is, until days ago when Arizona the legislature passed and the governor signed a law designed to combat the severe illegal immigration issues they face.
The new Arizona law will require police officers to arrest and detain anyone they have reasonable cause to believe may be in the U.S. illegally. If they pull you over for speeding or spot you hanging around a Home Depot parking lot waiting for a day labor job, they are required to arrest you if they think you’re an illegal immigrant. Period. Don’t have your passport or birth certificate with you? Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Go straight to jail.

Reflections on the TRU USA Recruiting Unconference

I spent this past Monday and Tuesday in Madison, Wisconsin with dozens of very experienced and very thoughtful recruiters and other human resource professionals. Unlike typical recruiting conferences where the agenda is pretty much set in stone and the sessions consist of a presenter delivering a PowerPoint and answering questions at the end of the 60 or 75 minutes, this was an unconference in that there were no presenters and no PowerPoints. Instead, each track or topic was led by a small group with experience in the issue being discussed and the questions and comments flew back-and-forth. Everyone was involved and everyone’s opinions mattered.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the TRU USA conference was getting to see again and in some cases meet for the first time many of the thought leaders in the industry. Each and every person shared their knowledge openly and without hesitation, even though they were at times sharing the secret sauce. Geoff Webb did a masterful job of keeping the unconference on track and on schedule yet allowing for some sessions to run a bit long when helpful and others to be completely changed when something unexpected happened. He was calm and cool under pressure.

What it is like to attend Louisiana State University of Shreveport

Louisiana State University of Shreveport is located in the Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area. The campus sits on 258 acres of land, highlighted by crape-myrtles that shade the concrete walkways, which connect the campus buildings. There are more than 4,000 students enrolled at LSUS; 26% are of diverse backgrounds and 92% are from the state of Louisiana. In the LSUS University Center, the wide laboratory gives students free access to around 60 computers.

What it is like to attend Louisiana State University

Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana, is where you will find Louisiana State University. It is 80 miles from New Orleans, and Baton Rouge offers a semi-tropical climate for outdoor activities. LSU has more than 2,000 acres, bordering west near the Mississippi River. The campus has approximately 250 primary buildings; many of them are listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and reflect the style of the 16th century Northern Italian Renaissance Era. It also features more than 50 different types of trees, which line the campus. LSU enrolls over 23,000 undergraduates, coming from 110 countries.
