The recession has changed the way the employers look at potential job candidates. It seems that the only people who are finding jobs are currently employed by another company. This puts the candidate in a sticky situation. How do you go about looking for a new job if you are currently employed?
Do Your Communicating At Home
The best way to keep your employer in the dark about your job search is to not engage in it while at work. Keep your resume and cover letter on your personal computer only. Don’t make copies or send faxes to another company while at work. It is a sure sign that you are looking to bail as soon as possible. Do your best to schedule interviews on your days off.
Avoid Talking About The New Job Search With Other Staff
Don’t tell anyone at the office about your current job search. Your best friend at work could become your worst enemy rather quickly. He could go tell the boss as soon as your back is turned. Never trust anyone to keep your secret. This is even more true in the ultra-competitive job market employees face today. Just act like its another normal day at the office while you are on the clock. The only people who need to know are your family and friends outside the office. Keep in mind that you are not obligated to tell your current employer anything until you give a two week notice.
Tell Recruiters To Keep Things Confidential
Those who are recruiting you will understand that you don’t want your job search compromised. Asking ahead of time for confidentiality will ensure that no one knows about your efforts to find a new job. If you are using a professional job seeking service, make sure you are aware of each company that your resume is being sent out to. You don’t want your resume accidentally sent to your own boss. Discretion is certainly a good quality when sending your resume out to many different companies.
It can often times be a good idea to brush up on your professional skills when looking for a job. Going to a place like Sanford Brown can be a great option for you. Networking with others can help you land a new job before you know it. There are many opportunities out there for you even if you are currently employed.
