That look on the lead singer's face at 0:57 and throughout is called "I wish you'd tuned your guitar before we started this song".
4:55 - an early example of autotune? :)
They're both playing. Chris' guitar is tuned down half a step so to play in G# he has to put the capo on the second fret. Matt's is standard tuning so he only has to put the capo on the first fret. Matt is playing lead on intro/verse and then doubling on the choruses.
If your strings are tuned gCEA you have to play chords like the soprano ukulele. If your strings are DGBe then you can play baritone ukulele chords, which are similar to guitar chords because the bottom 4 strings are tuned the same (guitar tuning: EADGBe, baritone ukulele: DGBe). Chord shapes only work because of the relationship between the strings. When you change the tuning, the chord shapes change. Hope this helps :)
Singing psalms with lyrics like "I love the Lord for he heard my voice" and "I love you Lord, my strength"? It's ok to not like a song, and you can find artists who only use psalms as their source of creativity. But let's not pretend that all the psalms are winners, or that love between creation and God isn't a common thread throughout every chapter. But you're right, this song is a little more Song of Solomon, which as we know, was a book resulting from the feminist movement.
I'm amazed by Taylor's consistency, at least in my experience. I have a 2001 (?) model of this guitar and it sounds pretty much exactly the same. I couldn't afford the 714ce back when I bought this, otherwise I would have gone for Rosewood :)
He's using a flat pick when he strums (pause it at 1:28). He's just hitting too hard. Probably using jazz stubbys or something. When you strum that hard even a $4000 Gibson sounds like a $150 Alvarez :)
Please tell me you're being sarcastic. If you PREFER the sound of an Ovation, that's one thing. I can't argue with your preference in sound. But to say they are known for their great sound is the funniest thing I've read on YouTube ever. Compared to what, a $200 Ibanez acoustic? Also, Gibson and Takamine are not even in the same universe so they deserve more separation than a "/". Listen to the guitar in this video and then check out the video of him playing a Gibson J45.
Really impressed with the sound of this Gibson!
Great videos - thanks for sharing! I wish you'd ease up on the strumming a bit though :)
Was anybody else fooled into thinking this was a duet with Elmo?
Haha, he says Good-bye Papa, PEAS PLAY for me...
This is amazing...amazing that in every version of this song that I can find he uses the same audio. Did he ever PERFORM it live? Anyone know?
If you know how to use Wikipedia, why not look up Coldplay's Parachutes and see what the release date on that is. Maybe check out a little song called Yellow from back in 2000.
