Editors’ Notes
To say it’s impossible to convey the beauty and importance of this 1964 work by tenor saxophonist John Coltrane is both a truism and a cop-out. Words can do it justice, just not ours. But the fact is, this recording, made with Elvin Jones (drums), McCoy Tyner (piano) and Jimmy Garrison (bass), comes at the towering peak of Coltrane’s abundant creativity. Everything he had done prior leads to this very disc, and everything he did after unravels his work in a cataclysm of experimentation. But for a session in December of 1964, time stopped for John Coltrane, and the jazz world would never be the same.
Customer Reviews
A Love Supreme
A love supreme is forever and eternity. John Coltrane an genius. How can the World not notice. A Love Supreme is a sermon dedicated to Our heavenly Father. All praises to God the Father God the Son & God the Holy Ghost.
There are better mixes of this brilliant album
Sadly this ‘Mastered for iTunes’ version completely buries Coltrane’s ethereal saxophone playing below the drums and the piano. This is horribly mixed compared to other versions of the album. It sounds like John Coltrane was in another building than the rest of the group in this mix.
I regret this purchase. A Love Supreme is a brilliant, must have album, but this re-mastering defeats much of what made this album great. Look for other versions or masters of this album.
Icon Jazz
Sonic expansion for "that" time, is still sonic expansion, now. Timeless "classic" jazz, that must be heard, continually.
