Noel Gallagher started writing “Lock All the Doors” in the early ’90s, just before he skyrocketed to fame for his work in Oasis. Full of soaring guitars and pounding drums, the now-finished track is a clear highlight on Chasing Yesterday, the British rock legend’s second full-length under his High Flying Birds moniker. But “Lock All the Doors” is no throwback, and Chasing Yesterday isn't as nostalgic as its title suggests. Together, they’re a confident display of Gallagher’s evolving ear for deeply melodic, innately anthemic rock, as heard again in the jazz-infused psychedelia of “Riverman” and the Johnny Marr–aided operatics of the closer, “Ballad of the Mighty I.”

The Real Genius behind Oasis
Noel showed with his first Flying Birds effort that he was the one behind any originality to be found in Oasis. His brother can get bummed, and Beady Eye is as awful as Leeds United.

I love every track and I haven't heard it yet.
I was proven wrong, in a good way.
I have to admit, when I heard in the heat of the moment, I kinda thought Noel had taken a turn for the mediocre. However, when I sat down and listened to the first few songs, I knew I was in for another great album. It’s at least as good as his first solo release. Some of the songs kinda take a turn for the melodramatic, but not entirely in an overwrought way. The girl with the x-ray eyes may be my new favorite Noel song. Bravo.
