Album Review

Few operatic tenors of the 20th century were more honored than Luciano Pavarotti, and none were as popular; his fame went far beyond the usual boundaries of classical music and his music was as widely embraced as any pop star. The Best is a two-disc collection released in 2005 that features 35 classic arias from Pavarotti's recordings for the Decca and London labels, including selections by Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Leoncavallo, Tosti, and Centonze.

Customer Reviews

Let this man's voice lift you above this world.

If you truly love music, open your mind and soul and let the greatest voice that ever lived raise you above all that toubles you. What a collection! I am swept away by his power and ability to deliver the most difficult of songs ever collected. This is just too great to keep writing about. Set some time aside and listen uninterrupted. It is just beautiful.

Speechless Voice

My body moves with each song on this album, even though im only 17 his voice truely amazes me and will be in my heart as each song he sings is in his. " Nessun Dorma!" is my favorite it so romantic and love filled. This album is a easy tear- jerker.

Beautiful landmark in music history

A fitting tribute to the Maestro whose voice is unparalleled. Some unexpected gems like "M'Appari" from "Martha". In "Quando Le Sere" you can hear his glorious richness. 10 stars, not 5. In February 18, 1972 Pavarotti sang Donizetta's "Ah Mes Amis -- Pour Mon Ame" at the Met, hitting 9 high C's effortlessly and receiving 17 standing ovations. You have to buy the whole clip (get to 4:43 into the aria) to hear this part, but wow! He does this without having thinness at the top of his voice (see how he handles La Donna E Mobile with lust and vigor). Each song is a gem and a testament to an incredible talent. Put it on the stereo, blast it, enjoy a glass of Silver Oak cabernet, and be prepared to be drifted to paradise. We are so lucky to have lived during his era! .
