Drivers can be fined up to $344 and slapped with three demerit points in the latest obscure road rule to be unearthed that applies in all but one Australian state. Items including fluffy dice, stickers, air fresheners, flags, toys, and so on - are not strictly forbidden from cars but could attract a fine if police consider them obstructions. Placing a GPS anywhere but the lower right or lower centre of the windscreen could also attract a fine for similar reasons.

A TV presenter who was found not guilty of the attempted murder of a Penthouse Pet has broken his silence in his first television appearance in more than two decades. Roberto de Heredia was accused of sending an explosive device in a shoe box to Simone Cheung's home in Belrose on Sydney's northern beaches in 1998. The package was picked up by Cheung's boyfriend at the time, Brett Boyd, and detonated in his face. He lost a thumb and an eye in the explosion. 

Twitter has gone into overdrive after a video was shared, appearing to show traffic disappearing into thin air, seen right. The clip, shared by Brit Daniel Dutch, captures cars and bikes driving on a road in an unknown location, before they appear to turn left and disappear into what looks like a bridge over water, seen left. However others pointed out that it was simply an optical illusion, and the footage was filmed from above at an angle - with what appeared to be a river, in fact a dirty roof overlooking the road.

Lula O'Neins (right and left with husband Alex), 24, was letting her hair down just eight weeks before her wedding when disaster struck. She tripped over and broke both bones - the tibia and fibula (middle) - in two places, leaving her limb bent out of shape (top middle). A Calvin Klein model turned bodybuilder faced court on a string of drug possession charges after a stash of steroids was discovered in his home. Sydney man Adam Browner (pictured) pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on the Gold Coast on Wednesday to seven charges of drug possession, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported. The Southport Court heard 44.5g was found in Browner's home which his defence lawyer, Troy Smith, said was not a large amount as it wouldn't even last a user a week.

A son charged with murdering his mother and his Australian aunt wanted to have a child with her but she was allegedly strangled to death after she rejected his 'sexual desire'.   Gilad Pereg is accused of killing his mother Pryhia Sarusi, 63, as well as his aunt, Australian university professor Lily Pereg, 54, in Argentina in January.    Pereg broke his silence about his in-depth relationship with his allegedly murdered family members during a jail interview with forensic psychologist Dr Mariano N Castex.

A sign ordering beach-goers to be quiet after a wealthy resident complained about noise has been taken down after backlash. The sign was set up on Tuesday at Manly Lagoon Reserve Playground on Sydney's northern beaches, warning locals to 'keep the noise down' near surrounding multi-million dollar homes.   'While playing here please be mindful of excessive noise which is disruptive to residents living nearby. Thank you for helping make this park enjoyable for all,' it reads.

A mother and serial drink driver has been sentenced after ramming her Land Rover into a parked car, despite already having her license disqualified until 2035.  Nicoletta Grotta sobbed in court on Wednesday as she was sentenced to 16 months behind bars, with a non parole of nine months.   The 37-year-old was approached by security in Sydney's Star Casino carpark at 1.30am on Monday morning, before she became aggressive. 

Amanda Roy and her husband, from Victorville California, hired the abusive pet sitter via the Rover app. The 10-month-old Labrador puppy Lucy is visibly stunned and stumbles after the incident while the woman watches on. Amanda said she is heartbroken after letting someone into their home to look after a pet they consider to be a 'family member'.

A father has been charged with assault for his alleged role in a wild brawl which broke out at a junior football game.  Semisi Paea, 35, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a fight during an under 9s match in western Sydney in June, 7NEWS reported.  The wild brawl was filmed by a stunned spectator and shows a number of men allegedly throwing punches at one another.

The woman had regularly visited the Central Coast salon, north of Sydney, for acrylic nails over the 'years without any issues'.  But days following her last visit, the woman found herself booked in for surgery after suffering pain and swelling to her middle finger.

The incident is believed to have happened at a supermarket in Dagenham, east London and was shared by thousands of people online today. Crowds of shoppers gathered around the women (left) as they pulled item after item from inside their religious clothing while surrounded by Asda security and staff. One of the suspects then raises her robes to show her knickers and torso (right) to prove she is not stashing any more items grabbed from the shelves. The male bystander who filmed the incident is heard saying to the woman as she leaves: 'You're not even Muslim, look at these lot. Take that off, bl**dy hell man.' It is not known if the women have been arrested or fled - with many who have watched the filming claiming the suspects were obviously pretending to be Muslim to commit the crime. Top centre, items the women were allegedly trying to steal.

The sounds could be heard at the Crossroads of the World at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday, with multiple backfires on the street near Eighth Avenue and West 42nd Street, according to the NYPD .Footage showed crowds of people running in a panic, with some people flocking towards West 47th Street and Seventh Avenue, police told WNBC .One pedestrian was injured from a fall sustained while running during the frenzy, police told the outlet, while parents were also separated from their parents.Witnesses claimed that they watched people screaming and falling over one another as they ran southwards on Broadway.The NYPD's Midtown North Precinct tweeted at 10.09 pm: 'There is no#ActiveShooter in #TimesSquare. Motorcycles backfiring while passing through sounded like gun shots.'We are receiving multiple 911 calls. Please don't panic. The Times Square area is very safe! @NYPDnews @NYPDTimesSquare.'

Former teenage prostitute Cyntoia Brown (pictured left right in her 2004 mugshot, and right in a more recent image) was released from prison today after serving 15 years of a life sentence for murdering a real estate agent who had picked her up for sex. Kim Kardashian West, Rihanna and other celebrities had lobbied for Brown's release, and then-Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam granted her clemency in January. Brown, who was 16 when she shot Johnny Allen (pictured inset) in 2004, will remain on parole supervision for 10 years on the condition she holds a job and does not violate any laws. She was convicted of the murder in 2006 after police said she shot Allen in the back of the head at close range after he picked her up at a drive-in restaurant in Nashville. She has said she was living in a Nashville motel room at the time of the murder with a pimp who abused her and plied her with drugs.

The little brother of a medical student allegedly stabbed to death by her own father has bravely spoken about his 'beautiful big sister', who excelled at everything she did. An intimate group of mourners at the funeral of Adelaide woman Sabrina Lekaj sobbed as her 11-year-old brother Pyrrhus and mother Romina recalled 'the wonderful years' with their 'darling girl'.  Ms Lekaj, 20, was found suffering multiple stab wounds in the front seat of her Mercedes Benz on July 22. Her father Petrit Lekaj was in the car beside her suffering self-inflicted wounds, and was later charged with her murder.

She recently copped a whopping '$400 parking ticket' for parking her luxury Mercedes-Benz in a truck zone while picking up her dog from a veterinary clinic. And now, it appears Bec Hewitt's car troubles are far from over, after her $250,000 Ferrari was spotted being towed away from her house in Melbourne on Tuesday.
