Foursquare is a location-based check-ins application that launched in 2009 at South by Southwest Interactive. Co-founders Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai started working on Foursquare in Crowley's East Village apartment in 2008. The app has more than20 million users who have checked in more than 2 billion times. The platform has evolved since its debut, incorporating restaurant menus, reviews, promoted specials and deals.
Foursquare's HQ is located in New York City's SoHo neighborhood. The company also has offices in San Francisco and London. Selvadurai announced his departure from Foursquare in March 2012 to pursue other projects but said in a blog post that he will remain as an advisor and continue being "the single most vocal user."
