After the COVID-19 situation forced us to postpone the Dublin conference on McCarthy, Joyce and Irish literature we had planned for this past June, we had hoped to recycle it for June 2021. Unfortunately, the persistence of the illness in Ireland and Britain is now preventing us from rescheduling for next spring as well. To further complicate matters, our point man and coordinator at Trinity College, Stephen Matterson, is on sabbatical this coming year. We’re watching the situation carefully, but it appears as though June 2022 will be our earliest opportunity to re-stage this conference in Dublin as originally planned.
Meanwhile, we are also talking about a domestic conference for next year to take its place, pandemic permitting, possibly in Knoxville, Tennessee, after several conferences in Texas and elsewhere. We will of course keep you posted on all future developments. Society members will also receive updates via our email newsletters when circumstances warrant.
We look forward to getting past this “new normal” and greeting our colleagues, old friends, and new friends once again as soon as our malfunctioning biosphere allows.
