A spectre is haunting Europe – the spectre of nationalism.In almost every European country, populists aretaking to the streets. With their nationalistic phantasiesof isolation, conspiracy theories and false solutions theycollect the votes of the unsettled and unref lective. Allthey want is one thing: power. And what do they intendto do with this power? Abolish Europe.Forty-two percent of the people in the European Unionare decidedly opposed to this idea. That makes 200 millionenlightened or even passionately convinced Europeans,an enormous silent majority, which – according toEvelyn Roll – needs to rise up and speak out. Roll advocatesbecoming proactive and organized in order to preventa collapse into dangerous national isolation and tofurther a European agenda based in earnestness, solidarityand compassion. Europeans of all nations, unite!
Ein Gespenst geht um in Europa – das Gespenst des Nationalismus. In fast jedem europäischen Land marschieren sie jetzt: Die Populisten. Mit nationalistischen Abschottungsphantasien, Verschwörungstheorien und Scheinlösungen sammeln sie die Stimmen der Verunsicherten und Denkfaulen. Sie wollen vor allem eins: An die Macht. Und dann? Europa abschaffen.
Zweiundvierzig Prozent der Menschen in der Europäischen Union wollen genau das ganz eindeutig nicht. Das sind 200 Millionen aufgeklärte bis leidenschaftlich überzeugte Europäer, eine gewaltige, schweigende Mehrheit, die, so Evelyn Roll, mit dem Schweigen jetzt langsam aufhören muss. Roll plädiert dafür, aktiv zu werden und sich zu vernetzen gegen den Absturz in die gefährliche Nationalstaatlichkeit und für eine ernsthafte, solidarische und leidenschaftliche europäische Agenda. Europäer aller Länder, vereinigt euch!
