UKIP's Tim Aker has won the Aveley and Uplands By-Election.
Tim Aker, who is also an MEP polled 747 votes.
In a hard fought contest, all the parties had positives to take away from the count at the Civic offices in Grays.
The UKIP vote dropped by 6%, which they did not seem too upset by and may put that down to an Independent candidate. Not sure why and they may have an eye on that percentage.
The Tories, will be pleased with just dropping by 1% and although their campaign tactics was described by the Daily Mail as the "politics of the gutter", it obscured their "under the radar" campaigning by a hardy few.
Labour will be pleased that their vote increased by over 2%a and they may well be convinced that the UKIP vote peaked in May. No doubt, they will go away for Christmas and come back in January with their eyes fixed on May.
There was also a turnout of 28%, which was quite impressive for a cold, dark day just a few weeks from Christmas.
