iTunes Editors’ Notes

Sleater-Kinney’s No Cities to Love—the peerless indie trio’s first LP in a decade—is 32 minutes of pure, lean, honest-to-goodness rock. Corin Tucker is in full command of her howitzer of a voice on standouts like “Surface Envy.” Carrie Brownstein’s haughty punk sneer leads the glorious “A New Wave” until it ecstatically merges with Tucker’s wail in the soaring chorus. Throughout, Janet Weiss’ masterful drumming navigates the songwriting’s hairpin tonal shifts, from the glittering and melodic “Hey Darling” to the turbulent complexity of album closer “Fade." No Cities to Love is an electrifying step forward for one of the great American rock bands.

Customer Reviews

Yes, yes, yes.

If you were that riot grrl of the 90s it is your civic duty to download. Yes, Yes, Yes.
These days I’m running after my kid and living a nice middle-class life, but there is still a riot grrl in me and there is still one in each of these amazing ladies. Have to support them. Just wish they would add more tour dates in LA! Please! I preordered on the two songs released alone. I have full confidence.

What a return!

They evolved but their sound is still intense and pressing. They’ve matured and have grounded themselves in the belly of what makes them one of the strongest bands ever. This album reminds of the first time I heard S-K over 16 years ago. Exciting, intelligent, and driving. YES!

Be Still My Heart

The world's greatest rock band is back. We've missed you. Long live SK!

Like many a great band, Sleater-Kinney inhabited their time so thoroughly it took an extended hiatus to realize the extent of their legacy. In many respects, they were the defining American indie rock band of the second half of the '90s, the group that harnessed all the upheaval of the alt-rock explosion of the first part of the decade and channeled it into a vigorous mission statement. It was not incidental that Sleater-Kinney were an all-female band — prior to S-K, co-leaders Corin Tucker...
